i remember playing south pittsburg a couple of years ago and they had a receiver, antonio robinson, i'm pretty sure that was his son i think he plays for tenn tech now.

also i'm pretty sure that there's another robinson @ sp now that got nominated for 1a back of the year but idk if they're related

Where was Tony Robinson from?

whenever i was at the sp game i think someone told me that antonio doesn't get along well with tony but that may not be true

both tony and antonio were amazing playmakers, i think the last year sweetwater played them he had about 150 receiving but got injured in that game and i think he was out the rest of the year. im pretty sure he broke his hip b/c he had ran into one of the fence poles and he actually bent it

Great play! Seems like we never see plays like that anymore around here ... $%^%$!!

BTW, check out the fan shots. Man ... we looked like a bunch of trucker-hat wearing rednecks jumpin' around back then :)

i have the entire 85 season on VHS........ the Auburn game was awesome....... Bo Jackson pulled himself out of the came in the third quarter.........

The Daryl Dickey interception....... 1st pass versus AL

the KY and Vandy beatings and the best yet the Miami cruxifiction........

If there was a playoff that year we would have won it all

larry lacewell came in and took what he called sub SEC players on defense and turned them into a fearless unit.............

What did lacewell coach that year? Ken Donahue was the DC and Ron Zook Secondary coach.

I would be delighted to send you some money for copying that Auburn game and sending it to me. I was 15 years old and hauled my mom down to that game; she's in fairly bad shape these days and I'd love nothing more than watching that game again with her. Neither of us (I think; I know I haven't) have ever seen a replay.

PM me if that's a possibility. Thanks!

I was born in the late 70's so as a young kid, Tony was my HERO! He is still probably my favorite UT QB ever...I know that is crazy. I still love watching those 1985 highlights. He really looked like he would just close his eyes and launch the ball as far as he could and have somebody run under it. I hope he is doing better and getting his life back together but the last I heard of him was jail too but it looks like he is out.

I was born in 1970 and Tony Robinson, Dale Jones, Mark Hovanic, Tony White.....man, those guys were my heros. Also Steve Alatorre and Alan Cockrell (sp?) were two of my favs.

talking about Chuck Webb got me to thinking about what Robinson is up to.

***please, nobody be a smart @$$ and say he's probably under a bridge somewhere***

This is the only thing I could find:

"Quarterback Tony Robinson - In and out of jail since leaving Tennessee. Back in hometown of Tallahassee, Fla." From a Tennessean article dated October 7, 2005, reliving the 1985 Sugar Bowl.

kns did a black history article about past TN QB's in feb of 2005. they listed robinson then as back in tallahassee and working to complete a mechanical engineering degree. no further news. hope he finished it up...poor guy.

....and Victor Peppers, Chris White, Terry McDaniel wearing #87 as a DB, Andre Creamer, Kelly Ziegler, etc., etc.

I am sure someone already corrected you, but McDaniel wore #86 not 87. The reason was he came in as a WR.

I am fairly confident Tony Robinson would have won the Heisman is he hadn't tore his knee in 1985. He was tearing up everyone. Was put on the cover of SI. He dominated in the Auburn game, so the "head-to-head" with Bo was a no-brainer. He could throw it like no other QB we have ever had and was a genius at changing the play at the line of scrimmage. Was my junior year at UT.

I remember Chuck Long's team got destroyed in the Rose Bowl by UCLA with a freshman running back, and Auburn got manhandled in the Cotton Bowl by Texas A&M. I can't remember the A&M QB, but he was pretty good, too. McNeal??

Kevin Murray was the qb for A&M.

Eric Ball was the back who was MVP. There is more to this game. Ronnie Harmon fumbled once all year and had 4 fumbles in the first half. There was a piece run on HBO Real Sports about Harmon whether he threw that game as many Iowa fans believe. He had confirmed association with a reputed gambler with payments. Of course nothing came of it and Frye stood by Harmon's denial he threw the game.

Got into reading more about this. Harmon testified in fed court in 1989 against the agent and refuted gambler. Harmon took 54k after jr year as a promise to have him as his agent.

"
Under cross-examination by Bloom's attorney, Dan Webb, Harmon said that over the next 15 months, the agents made payments to him totaling $54,000, including $1,000 for arranging to allow Bloom to call Harmon's teammate, Devon Mitchell, about representation. During that period, with Harmon playing a starring role, Iowa won the Big Ten championship and played in the 1986 Rose Bowl. The agents eventually did represent Mitchell.
Harmon admitted that university records indicated he was academically ineligible to play that season. According to Webb, the university nevertheless allowed Harmon to play in violation of conference rules."

Surprised Iowa did not FF the 1985 season.
