You wouldn't see LeBron James getting bent out of shape if JayZ called him an n-word. In fact it's probably commonplace. The moment one of them accused the other of being an uncle Tom, all hell would break loose. It's equally offensive to a black man if a white man were to call him an uncle Tom. To me, that would make it more offensive. There's no double standard to it. It's universally offensive.
it does if you're the Senate majority leader describing why Obama is palatable to the American public. But hey, I bet this commissioner holds a lot of sway on national political decisions right?
Haha have you not seen some of the things said about black conservatives? White liberals get a complete pass on anything they say toward black conservatives.
No, no. I'm agreeing with you that those remarks are racially insensitive. Even offensive. I'm saying there is a big difference between them and the "n" word.
Neither am I.
I'm on record as saying the old guy shouldn't be made to give a half-assed apology he doesn't mean, if he truly thinks of the president as he stated.
When did this become a liberal/conservative issue?
82 year-old white police chief calls the POTUS the worst racial slur you can call a black person.
What does political affiliation have to do with it?
To me, the lack of an apology is really beside the point.
To me, its a question of:
1) Allowing your town to be represented in any way by someone who would say something so utterly dumb, and so offensive;
2) The fact that he "has criteria" whereby he decides a person is worthy of the title; and,
3) He hasn't resigned and instead seems to want to further stick his thumb in the collective eye of an entire race.
He has to go.
and Reid's is worse since he actually has a microphone. You know full well if a TP member said he expected Obama to speak with a negro dialect you'd have a thread up within 30sec calling the entire group racist.
this is simply some random old guy in a town of 6,000 people. His remarks do not matter one bit

where were you when Nagin coined the "Chocolate City" phrase? Oh it was ok since he's black and all.
Correct. It is different.
Practically speaking its different. As LW says, you can debate whether it should be treated differently. Point is, it is perceived much differently.
Those who gloss over that distinction are, in my mind, just trying to justify the derogatory use of the word.
Matter? I guess that's relative.
For me, it reinforces my belief that there are still people out there, many of them, who are so hateful and bigoted that they so cavalierly put aside basic manners, not to mention respect for the office (his own and Obama's) that he would say such a thing ... and then stick with it!
Holy **** your bias is so thick that its impossible to hide. How is a black mayor of a major city claiming the name "chocolate city" for a city that also includes a large amount of white people?? It's the same damn thing, except Nagin was a Mayor and this guy is just some 82 yr old desk warmer.
