You saw USM do it with Suarez and look what happens, when you release these kids so quick they've got all these schools in their ear plus you. I would be disappointed in UT athletics if they didn't release all letter of intents in any sport with a head coaching change. High school kids should have the final say on their college choice and shouldn't be road blocked by the universities IMHO. New coaching staff obviously changes the criteria the recruits used to make their selection.

A lot of speculation about 1st Impressions of CDT by Cofer and how it may have played into the decision of Cofer and others to ask for their releases. I do agree with hardball on the release if it is requested before the Coach (CDT) has had time to put his staff together or settle into the job or before a face to face with the new coach. Release them when that is done, before then is not in anybody's best interest. Everybody needs time to adjust.

What kind of 1st impression do you get from a Kid who professes he is a VFL, wants to play at UT, a legacy, or a visit to the campus and before those events listed above. Not good.

Everybody talks about CDTs impression on Cofer, I ask about Cofer's first impression to CDT. Cofer needed an out, he got it. No reason for CDT to deny it, but Cofer may not have been as All Vol as he professed.

The I'm not tryna be Great, I gonna be a legend thing told me enough. Basketball is a team sport and it's CDTs style and Cofer was not as All Vol as he professed because he would have waited to sign or at least given the team he was committed to previously a visit before his decision.

That's not the true issue. CDT would have given all releases if they eventually asked for them. But, you don't have to release them immediately upon request. My business is about leverage, and a new coach can have an uphill battle because he has to catch up. But, the one area where he has some leverage is the LOI. No one is saying not to release them at all. Just make sure you get a chance to meet the player, family, and form a relationship before granting the release.

This. I don't mean to call out the Cofers but if they were truly orange bleeders they would have at least given CDT and staff a chance by visiting campus. There was no hurry for him to dump TN and move on. I think if he had at least given UT the benefit of the doubt by visiting, people would cut him some more slack.

Why visit the campus when you've already been multiple times? What else could Tyndall show him that he hadn't already seen? JMO.

I didn't say you hold them hostage forever, I would have an issue with that. However releasing the guys as quickly as he did, I do question, at least Phil since he supposedly decided he really wanted him.

Look at how USM handled Suarez, nothing wrong with how they played it and they ended up keeping him.

I wouldn't.

Because then you'd have those that realized he used one of our few remaining official visits just out of respect. If he wasn't gonna be a Vol don't visit, we've got too many holes to fill and not enough OV's to fill them, can't afford using one on a guy out of respect.

If the first impression was bad it would have given Tyndall a chance to overcome it. It would have been on UT's dime. I would think for someone that supposedly bleeds orange it wouldn't be too much to ask.

If he was leaning towards FSU I prefer he not waste 1 of our few OVs if there's little chance of flipping him

I could see that from our perspective but I think all these folks claiming he bled orange may need to rethink it. From my point of view he didn't give the Vols a fair shake. JMO

He was still planning on being a Vol when Tyndall was hired, just because a kid doesn't end up here doesn't mean he doesn't bleed orange. At the end of the day the kids gotta do what's best for him.

I wish we could have somehow convinced young Cofer to wear the Orange. If he has half the grit and athletic ability of his father he would be an asset to any team. I played football and basketball against Mike in high school. He's the only guy I ever ran away from on the football field. #whenhehitsithurts lol!

I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree. He was wanted here. He could have excelled in CDT's system. He was butthurt over some silly press conference verbage. He doesn't bleed orange.

This kid wanted to be a Vol but felt that wasn't the best situation for him, hard to fault a VFL, for doing what he felt was best.

This is BS. You don't bleed orange and go play for another program. Cofer can choose to play ball wherever he wants, but you can't play the whole bleed orange thing a la Von Bell, while you are signing to go play for another school that you will have equal ability to further your game to the next level at.

He had the rug yanked out from under him when Martin left. Can't really hold that against Cofer. So what if he doesn't want to play here anymore? It's his life.

I don't care where he goes. If he spurned us, by definition he's not a VFL nor does he bleed orange. He bleeds siminole bloody urine sort of a color.

Expecting kids to do something that's best for a school that isn't best for them in their opinion is beyond ridiculous. That's like saying Butch should work for free if he's really a VFL cause that would be best for the school.

I'm good with that but he can't make the claim that he's a VFL or bleed orange. He hasn't earned it. His dad is but you don't inherit that status. I don't begrudge him one bit but he ain't no Volunteer!
