Have they said when they are commiting?

It also begs the question, if Gentry commits before Gibson and then Gibson wants to be a Vol, but they know the other will walk away if they do not choose them, which do they choose?

take both and if one of them wants to back down from the competition he will leave

Probably not but Gibson still has as good a chance if not better of starting at UT than anywhere else he is considering. If Gentry commits and both sign here, Gibson still has a chance to beat him out, our depth at QB hasn't been anything impressive to this point.

I agree, especially if you consider us potentially losing Peterman or at least one QB over the summer....

I really hope Gibson doesn't commit on impulse, because it's public that Gentry is committing somewhat soon, and then Gentry commit elsewhere and Gibson jump ship later on for tOSU or Auburn or something.

Pretty much what I, and many others, have been saying. They'll take both but it's likely that after one commits the other will want to go elsewhere.

I think if Gibson commits, Gentry would definitely sign elsewhere. If Gentry commits, however, I think Gibson may still commit to us after his senior season. Gibson's an elite (top-10) prospect and - even with Gentry around - he would still have a better chance for immediate playing time at Tennessee than at Auburn or Ohio State.

In fact, Gentry may know there's a risk that Gibson could still commit to us after he does, so perhaps that might deter him from committing to us in the first place. If Gentry and his family have been doing their homework, they would know all of the things Gibson says UT has been telling him (e.g., that UT refrained from signing a QB in 2014 specifically to get him, that he's "the only quarterback [Bajakian] recruits until [Gibson] tells him otherwise," etc.).

I'll be ecstatic with either guy, but we could very well get both if Gentry commits first.

- "[Mike Bajakian] just said I’m the only quarterback he recruits until I tell him otherwise.” - Torrance Gibson, Dec. 13, 2013

- "At Tennessee, Gibson has been told by the coaching staff that the reason they didn’t take a quarterback in their huge 2014 class is because they want Gibson first and foremost in 2015." - Saturday Down South, Feb. 24

- "They told me they didn't take a quarterback in the last class and I was surprised because every college takes a quarterback and they said they were waiting on me. A lot of coaches don't say that, they always take quarterbacks and so I was surprised they didn't. That's a big opportunity for me and for me to work my way to a starting position... (Jones) was just telling me how I’d fit in the offense and just telling me, ‘If you need time, just take your time. We’re not rushing you or anything like that.’ They’re just waiting on me." - Torrance Gibson, March 27

- "They talk to me every day. Coach Butch Jones is a great coach. They talk to me every hour (of) every day. And it's not just their fans. Coach Jones has a great staff around him. They have a great campus and academics. They didn't take a quarterback last cycle and definitely need a quarterback. Coach Jones is getting the top recruits right now. The reason why they are number one for me right now is because they stay in touch with me the most." - Torrance Gibson, May 5

- Gibson is the # 8 overall prospect (#1 ATH) in ESPN's top 300; Gentry is # 72 overall prospect (# 6 QB).

Taking all of the above into consideration, I think Gibson's the top target at QB.

How can you provide this information without providing the information reported on Gentry? It's clearly biased

I can't find any information reporting that Gentry's our top target at QB. Can you, Wu? Can anybody? I'm not trolling, I'm genuinely curious about who's been reporting that and what their evidence is.

Gentry's better than Gibson...he most likely knows it...he won't test that theory by piggyback committing...Ohio State gets him if Gentry commits to us.

There are plenty of quotes in the Gentry thread that he is highly targeted if you take the time to look. I really don't think Wu needs to do your leg work. As to who is #1 on the board, who really knows besides the coaches? Its possible they are both #1 as they both bring a different style to the table with elite skills we can win with.

Obviously Gentry is highly targeted, but Wu and others have been saying that Gentry is our staff's "top" QB target, ahead of Gibson. I provided evidence that our staff actually covets Gibson as the top target, so why is it also my responsibility to find contradictory evidence when I don't think such evidence exists? It's like criticizing somebody arguing against the existence of unicorns or leprechauns for failing to look.

That's a valid concern, but I have faith that Butch would have his bases covered. I just don't think he would allow something like that to happen.

Do you have a direct quote from the coaches or from a reporter close to the program (such as VQ) about who our top target is? Outside of that, I don't see how you can say you provided evidence Gibson is the top target. A statement from Gibson is far from proof he is the #1 target.

I believe that multiple statements from Gibson going back to December 2013 are pretty convincing evidence, especially when we have nothing to contradit them. Some people claim otherwise, so I would like to know exactly where they've been hearing that:

And no, the info we have points to Gentry. He's been stated by VQ and Scout multiple times he's #1

Here's what some quotes from recruiting sites in the Gentry thread actually say (emphasis in bold).

Feb. 1, from Ryan Callahan:

I think Gentry, Torrance Gibson, Jarrett Stidham and Drew Lock probably are the four 2015 QBs at the top of Tennessee's board right now, but it's still early. Other targets always could emerge, and that board could change a bit as the Vols continue evaluating guys in the coming months, especially during the spring evaluation period.

Feb. 2, from 247:

Kones and Bajakian have made it clear to gentry that he’s one of the vols’ top quarterback targets in the 2015 class.

They just told me that they’d love for me to be a vol, and they want me to try to get out and maybe see the spring game, get out as soon as i can and visit everything, and take an unofficial and just check everything out,” said gentry

“(jones) was just telling me that they love the way i play, they love the kid i am, and they really, really want me to wear orange and white in a couple of years. It just really meant a lot to me hearing that from him.”

Feb. 7, from VQ:

At quarterback, there seems to be an early pecking order with several guys like Torrance Gibson, Zach Gentry and Jarrett Stidham sticking out

Feb. 7, from 247:

Gentry picked up an offer from Tennessee in December and quickly has become one of its top priorities at the quarterback position.

I'm not going to comb through the rest of the Gentry thread for every update, but, if these February quotes are representative, they're a far cry from any claim that Gentry is UT's top target at QB. In reality, the evidence strongly supports an inference that Gibson is indeed our top target at QB.

I'm sure if Gentry talked as much as Gibson there would be plenty of statements from the player he is also the #1 target. So in others words, statements from the players aren't credible about the topic. Those other quotes confirm my belief that we have a couple guys right at the top at #1.

You can believe what you like. But VQ and Danny Parker of scout have both said the Gentry is #1. The coaches arent going to go in and tell Gibson he's their #2 target

Guy that post on TBB(son who played at American) said Vols lead TOSU and TG told his family he wants to leave state. He's still hearing that parents and Rump are pushing UM but would support tOSU. Gibson is suppose to visits Columbus, ND and a few northern schools in June.

I just can't see the staff telling Gentry no if he wants commit at the end of May. This QB class is too important to bet the house on Gibson committing in Dec or Jan.

We would take Gentry's commit and still continue to recruit Gibson.

Look at Auburn. They have a QB in Queen and are 2nd on Gibson's list.

We would be in the same position as Auburn.

We also technically have a QB in Jauan Jennings too, although the consensus is that he will end up on defense. But still...
