IUPUI Transfer: Ian Chiles (UT commit 5/13/14)

I'd love to have a Trae back on the team. Guy scored 12.5 points a game and was in the top 4 in APG too. Oddly vilified here, I'll never get it.

The legend of the "vilified" Trae Golden has grown legs, but in reality, those who weren't sad to see him go mostly questioned his effort at times, his consistency, and his physical tools to play PG on both ends of the floor, mainly defense.

I'd take him back too, if he came back as a SG. As a PG, he wasn't quick enough offensively to break his man down, nor quick enough defensively to defend other PGs. He could get to the paint and finish with his floater due to his strength and he was solid at the FT line. Inconsistent outside jumper and awful defender. 12.5 ppg means very little if your man routinely outscores you on the other end. Opposing PGs set career highs in points on us far too often with Trae attempting to defend them.

no college team led by Trae did much of anything. There's more to basketball and leading a team then going off scoring every now and then

Huge news..

@GoodmanESPN: IUPUI transfer Ian Chiles will visit Tennessee this week, Maryland next week. Will likely choose from those and Auburn. Can play in 14-15.

Stats suggest he is a slasher and not a great shooter. 3 point % not spectacular but if we have 6 schollys and Tyndall was thinking of carrying one over we might as well chance this kid as he would be right off the scholarship roll next season.

Career 35% from 3? That's not horrendous, that puts him in the range of McRae.

He's very similar to Trae Golden, as a graduate transfer he would be a nice addition. Can provide depth at both the 1&2 and would be a scoring threat off the bench, something we need.

Most of us liked him. But he never was good at staying in front of an offensive player on d and was a below average shooter. He did have a knack for penetrating the lane using his Strong safety like frame to make defenders bounce off him (when he was motivated).

Wasn't a good man to man defender, Tyndall won't be playing man to man though. Also Chiles is a bit quicker and more athletic than Trae, not quite the liability defensively IMO.

I would gladly take trae on next years team as a 7th or 8th option coming off the bench, that's likely what Chiles would be.

My post was to agree with what you just said. And I already posted instead of carrying a scholarship over use on grad transfers at least as they come off for a fresh shot at recruits next season.

All are likely possiblities at this point

We get all of those guys and keep Hubbs I think we'll surprise a lot of people. I'm actually more excited about UT basketball more than I have been in a while. I'm getting that old CBP excitement back and it's great :)

Honestly I am as well. I think this coach will be just the shot of energy that UT has been missing

Sorry if this has already been mentioned, but how do you pronounce his name? Is it like it looks or is it Hispanic like "chee-lays"?

If Hubbs stays and with the signings of Punter and Mostella, don't see where Chiles would fit.

Just saw a tweet that was saying that Ian Chiles is visiting Vols this weekend. I don't know how accurate it is but it was on twitter.
