Amazing how many people are selective with their "I believe in second chances" stuff. Has nothing to do with the fact the guy can ball, I am sure.

Probably doesn't hurt, but the guy is only guilty of providing a ride to someone broke down and not calling the cops soon as he found out what was going on. From everything I read, it doesn't even state when he found out and the kidnapping was over with in 1 day it looks like.

I am kind of mixed on it, but I have certainly seen guys take advantage of second chances and succeed. Memphis brought in Geron Johnson, and he had committed multiple crimes and I think was at multiple junior colleges. He simply couldn't stay out of trouble. Pastner signed him, laid down the ground rules, and by all accounts, he was a model citizen. It can happen.

Just wish Tyndall wouldn't have said what he did at his PC because it opens the door for criticism. I also like to stay away from controversy and whether it is right or wrong, that "word" is controversial.

Yea I would pass on him since he is not a boyscout or choir boy. Good thing you don't recruit college athletes to Tennessee or any other college.

Also, don't mean to come off as what he did wasn't wrong. When I read my reply it seems that is what I was saying. He should have called the cops and that's wrong that he didnt.

I just feel given what I read, he shouldn't be condemned for life.

Right or wrong.Would be extremely difficult to turn your mom over to the govt. Especially as an 18yr old kid.

I don't let the govt dictate morality. Sign him up.

No, but the fact that he hasn't taken a three all season and is shooting 64% at the FT line doesn't exactly inspire confidence.

He's a freak athlete, though. I'd take a flier on him.

His jump shot is a broken mess, however. A highlight video shouldn't be enough evidence to convince you otherwise.

Agreed. My comment is not in response to this thread really, just an observation I have made. With many, it isnt about "second chances" but winning. Not everyone, but there are many who are not consistent with that logic. The second chances stuff is a fun way to pretend it isnt about winning but its about giving a young guy a chance at life. I am thinking of some coaches that fit the bill.

When you don't have decent legal representation,you get these kinds of deals...a kid get's looped in with a psychopath Mom and some on here label him a "yahoo"....fine line people...Chris Webber ends up with a key to the city...hell Vick got one from Dallas TWO YEARS AGO! :eek:hmy:

Antonio Barton is a career 40% 3 point shooter, but a career 60% ft shooter, so the 2 don't always translate.

I know he had no jumper at Bama, but I figured the multiple clips of a jumper at EMCC might be a sign he had at lease worked on it.

As for 3 point attempts, I wouldn't even begin to look at those to decide whether or not he had a jumper. He's 6'9" 220lbs, he shouldn't be taking 25 footers, but 15-17 footers are perfectly fine IMO.

Can anyone explain why Tyler Smith was expelled from the team - He was never accused of something as serious as this kid...Why no second chance for him.... But a second chance for a kid involved in kidnapping.... This reeks of desperation... We can do better than this... He will find good players lets stay away from felony charges.....

I would argue carrying around a gun with a filed off serial number is much more severe than giving someone a ride who you had no idea committed a crime.

Iirc, Smith had some other strikes but maybe not made public. Also, those happened while at UT, not before.

IIRC Tyler Smith had a gun in his car with the serial number filed...A felony.

Loaded weapon on campus, alcohol, prima donna, is not serious?

This kid is guilty by association to his idiot mom. Get over it. If she had not committed this crime, he is probably starting at a High Major school.

They probably overcharged him to get leverage over him and his mother for a easy conviction. Happens all the time.

So step off with the Law and Order or Criminal Minds type mentality.
