I love the thought and tend to agree. Easier to imagine a rumor leeking with a lower tiered candidate, than a top guy.

Wichita State has positioned themselves well with Marshall.

They know that Marshall took over a program with a good tradition and has made the program even better. He is the big man not just on campus, but in town as well. He does not have to compete with football for top billing there.

The kicker is that Wichita State pays Marshall well. For anyone to grab and take him away will require a paying a buyout that would reward them and allow them to go out and get a good coach. Where he stands at Wichita State, it would likely require a team to pay him close to $3 million or more to get him. He is not going to leave for $200,000-$300,000 per year because he has it good where he is at.

UT won't go to $3 million for anyone.

The only hope we have with Marshall would be that he simply wants to be here and/or wants to get back into the south and is willing to make the move for about a half million raise.

It seems that it's highly unlikely because he is happy at Wichita State from all accounts.

I would do pay Marshall $3 million. He would be worth it.

There is not guarantee with any coach, but he would be a coach who would likely be very successful.

He would fill the seats every game. Get us into the NCAA Tournament, which brings in tournament dollars and raises exposure for UT. The investment would be profitable for UT.

With current situation and recruits I agree. He is as close to a "guarantee" as Hart should expect to get.

And your sure about that?

How do you know Hart did not contact Marshall and offer him 3 million a year and He said no thanks? Should Hart then offer 4? Maybe 5? The man has passed on much better jobs than UT from schools who have a history of paying top dollar. Not sure I'd chalk up our AD as being "cheap" when the man is just not interested in moving.

Because there's reports from multiple media outlets that 1. Tennessee hasn't even bothered contacting Marshall because they won't pay what it takes and 2. That Marshall's people have let it be known they would listen, but at around $3m

So we have reports claiming Hart and the UT brass may have flown in a northern direction, yet claims that Gregg Marshall is waiting by the phone, claimed interest, AND even informed the media of his price has to be accurate. Got it.

Amazing that some of you act like you know what's going on. You don't. So just let it play out. And we could get Marshal if we simply paid him 3 mil? Misinformed.

How many times are you going to bring that up? So what somebody told me they thought something was up since we were going over the number and I shared it. And that was prior to people knowing we would sign over 25. Get over it.
Just stop "telling" us that our ad is too cheap to get Marshall. You are wrong. Deflect all you want.

Not all coaches chase the $. Some can prioritize and make the best career decision for themselves. Take a chance with a fickle fanbase and limited roster and possibly be on the market in a few years after uprooting or stay where you have it made and no pressure.
No brainer. He has all he needs there and nothing to prove.

not disagreeing with you... i do not seeing him coming to the Vols.. not after being rejected twice. for me bottom line is that no one is a sure thing even marshall. he could get here and stink to high heaven for one reason or another....
