UT and other SEC Schools and Fans Racists?

Oh yes!!!We're all racist...that's why 100,000 white people show up at football games to watch 22 black guys play & why 20,000 white people show up to watch 5 black guys play for their school. This past season UT had exactly ZERO white players on the men's & women's BB teams combined & about 15-18 of the 22 starters in FB were black. Pat Forde & the rest of the media are hunting for anything they can to try & make the SEC look bad because the rest of the sports world is so envious of us. BITE ME MEDIA!!

So, what your saying is that 2,455 non white people show up at football games?

I am so over this shat. I love east Tennessee but one of the worst things about living in the south is that everyone else in every part of the country thinks we are all inbred, dumb rednecks who fly the confederate flag and hate ppl who are different than us.

It's embarrassing. I was born and raised here and I dont hate anybody. There are ppl I dislike but that's bc they are idiots, not bc of the color of their skin or religion they believe in. Shows like Honey Boo Boo, Guntucky and Appalachian Outlaws paint us in a negative light. Where are the shows that portray the well educated, friendly southerners who enjoy this area because of the neighborly culture and hard working, no bs mentality of it's ppl?

I've lived a lot of places but I have yet to find a place where you can walk down the street and be greeted with a smile and hello by perfect strangers; where men still hold the door for women and respect their elders; where somebody drops a $20 or leaves a bag of groceries and is chased down by the person who sees it happen.

Pat Forde sees a chance to latch onto a stereotype and instead of trying to show how much things have changed in 50 years, he tries to stir the emotions of ppl around to country and make them believe that this part of the country has remained unchanged for 150 years.

no, i dont think that's what he was saying. but a majority of the stadium is usually caucasian. I think you understood that but just wanted to be a prick.

Say hello to Mrs. Forde for me, Pat.

"that's why 100,000 white people show up at football games"

So he's not saying that 100,000 white people show up at football games?

Also, and for the record, I don't think race had anything to do with Martin leaving. I think it probably hurt him in the eyes of about 5% of the fans, and I'm willing to bet, most of those fans were football fans that never attended U.T.

I will say that I spent some time in Anderson County, and racism is alive and kicking out in that neck of the woods.

Thanks, I'm sure he appreciates your help.

hey man, you are a Martin fan and on a UT board where he isn't coaching anymore. I'm going to be jabbing you from time to time when you are here running your mouth, especially when you start talking about or at UT fans and our program. Our program. Not yours.

No, I dont think he literally meant that the way you read it. The crowd is predominately white, but you are gonna read it in whatever way helps you to make your point. I still think 5% is a bit of a reach but maybe I have more faith in ppl than you.

Ppl didnt want black Coach Martin, but 36000 signed a petition to bring back Jewish Coach Pearl. You sound like an idiot. Being black had nothing to do with it, being a mediocre coach did. Two 1st round NIT losses and very few big wins are what had ppl wanting Martin gone during the season. He turned it around at the end, but this team should have never been on the bubble. They proved that when they wanted to.

There's racism everywhere in the world. I could go to New York, Montana, where ever it is you are from, Alabama and find a racist, but to say that it thrives here bc we are stuck in the past is just moronic.

Look what happened in the midwest just a few days ago...

Not 22 black guys - QB's and kickers are often white and occasionally few O-linemen and TE's as well (are you a black racist and don't want to give white boys any credit whatsoever) :birgits_giggle:

Did you miss this part of my post?

"Also, and for the record, I don't think race had anything to do with Martin leaving."

I also agree, there is some sort of racism everywhere you go. I think, and there are some studies that support my point, that the lower the level of education, and the higher the levels of poverty, the more racism you see. U.T. is fortunate, in that is located, in my opinion, right in the middle of one of the most beautiful part of the country. It is unfortunate in the sense, that a lot of those parts of the same country are impoverished, rural, and ignorant. However, again, and I want to just make sure this is clear, U.T. is not a racist school, and while there are racists that support U.T., I'm willing to bet .1% of them actually attended U.T.

I think Forde is appealing to the lowest common denominator with this article.

And those of us who supported Martin will be jabbing right back if the program goes downhill from here (reminding you all about the moronic petition - we will be here playing the role of your bad conscience).

Upstate New York is the most racist place I've ever seen. They have a real neo-nazi problem. You never hear about that though.

that's fine if that's how you want to roll as a UT fan. Fact is though, Martin himself said the petition got them going, so tell us again how it didn't. Why did it take that for them to rally around? And if you thought the next 2 years were going to be repeat tourney visits, I guess that's your choice.

From what Martin said, one could assume no petition = no run to the ncaa. What would they have rallied around each other with if not for it? It was a huge rallying cry. Some here tried to tell you guys, but you laughed. Now, Martin himself said it, so where do you deflect now.

I agree ...there IS some racism and I might go as high as 10 or 15% but its not a dominant issue.

I think it upset a few of them, but "got them going" I really question that. Do you think guys like Maymon, MacRae, Stokes, and Barton, were excited about the prospects of going to the N.I.T. in their final season of college basketball. Do you really think they didn't care until the visionary's decided that the only way the team was going to meet it's potential was to make an illogical petition?

The fact that you know this is a little concerning.
UT has human beings playing.

I think they got pissed, rallied, and played the best 9 games in Martins career after it came out. Teams and players, especially struggling, will rally around anything, even if insignificant and that was very significant.
UT under Martin in 60-70 games never played like they did until after the damn thing came out.
And that's all fans wanted anyway. Sweet 16 team that many of us saw was headed to the NIT. One would really have to wonder what would have driven them had it not happen.
And I'm not taking credit. Just discussing what in reality looks like occurred and Martin's comments even back it up.

So you think the petition was more motivation than not ending their college careers in the N.I.T?

what was the motivation the first 27 games to get to the dire point? Last year? Year prior?

It took dire circumstances to bring out their best as a team that was brought together due to it. There was discord and bad communication between players and players/coaches. We all saw the quotes from Martin, Stokes, Mcrae, etc. All that disappeared and they were brought together. Nothing wrong with using some extra fire as motivation.
