You're exactly right I am making a "premature" analysis. Based on the history of how we hire coaches, I bet I am right when it's all over. Come back and see me then. I will either be right or eat crow.

not interested in you doing either. From all the names we are hearing, I think UT is in line to get a solid coach. It is possible for coaches to be good even if we aren't aware of them. Everyone wants a name that sizzles, but guys like White, Tyndall, etc are going to win.

It'll either be

Howland
Smith
White

Tennessee can land one of those three

I would be okay with any of these guys with Tubby being last on the list.

Is Tim Miles even a possibility? He would be one of my first calls once we strikeout on the homerun hires.

They didn't settle on him...They saw a bright young coach who has a good future ahead of him and decided to go that direction...Plus they got him at a good rate.

A "bright young coach" who had to ride Coach K's coattails for 14 years before he could land a mediocre HC job.

If we're still having this same conversation 2 weeks from now I think we can say there have been a lot of things that had an impact of not having hired a Coach. Stay tune.

Fair point.

They have a history of hiring assistants.

I know you don't want to believe it but CCM either wasn't offered the job or saw that he was not going to be offered and pulled his name out.

You don't fly up there and interview just to pull out. CCM to Marquette would have made sense for him. Midwest ties and all. He wanted out of here and if offered by the people that count, he would have taken the job.

I don't care if he was offered or not, really doesn't mater at this point, that's not my point anyways. It's that a dysfunctional AD and bad pub can land you interviewing an assistant coach, and a HC who has been to 1 NCAAT in 6 years.

Buzz left Marquette for a worse job, in a really tough conference to get out of there, that says a lot. Martin could've stayed but left as well, that says something also IMO. Who we hire, and how much we have to overpay (if we do) will say a lot.

If you get Tyndall for $1.1m then it wasn't as bad as I thought, if it takes $1.5+ to get Tyndall then it took a lot of convincing to get him to leave when it shouldn't.

Missouri fans are praying this happens. If I were the AD at Mizzou I would pull a Hart and call his bluff. If he wants it let him have it.

According to Goodman, Melvin Menzies is next in line after Haith. I would hire Menzies in a heartbeat over Haith.

I don't think Tubby is leaving TT for Tulsa.

I would hire the local youth YMCA coach before Haith.

I'd like to know exactly how Martin was so egregiously wronged by the UT brass.

What exactly did UT specifically do besides offer the guy a half million dollar raise and an extension?

Sure the fans did their petition. A hundred other schools have done online "fire coach X" sites before without the uproar.

He didn't like the buyout supposedly so he took his ball and went West and apparently blindsided Hart. He negotiated in bad faith, lied to his players, lied to his fans who did support him through thick and thin, and stole a recruit on the way out the door.

So forgive those of us here who don't buy into this national media frenzy on just how toxic this job is.

If anyone had the balls and the motivation to do so in the national media, they would bring this side of the equation up.

Great point on the website deal. I remember there being a fireronzook.com like halfway through his first year. Didn't hurt them in hiring the hottest coach in the country 2 yrs later and getting 2 BCSC out of him. We're not the first or last school to ever do this. Why the media is so infatuated with our case and blowing this up is the head scratcher. They've beaten the intestines out of a dead horse with this story. It's beyond tiresome and overplayed at this point.

Why did their coach take a worse gig?

Because Buzz had issues with the administration means that every other candidate does to? Buzz left because he didn't like the situation at hand, doesn't mean it wouldn't work out better for someone else. I'm guessing you have friends (but unsure since you're always on here) that clearly get along with you while the majority of us would probably slap you if we dealt with you in person. Comparability isn't for everyone.

Have you not seen the President/AD's quote saying that it was clear in talking to Cuonzo that situation wasn't going anywhere? Or do you just ignore that? Is that because CCM pulled his name out of the hat while interviewing or because the admin wasn't feeling him?

Really, who did they have to fight off for him?

Im not sure but I had heard of him as possibility for other jobs before including being coach in waiting for Duke although Im of the belief that their is alot of misinformation during coaching searches and we wont hear who our coach is going to be until right before the deal is done if then.

Or maybe VQ said they were reached out to through 3rd parties

You dont hear anything substantiated until right before the deal is done or after......Just like Zo to California.....when did we hear that he was taking the job? After he agreed to the job. There were several media personal with sources that ZO turned down the Marquette job and several that claimed that he wasnt offered the job..There have been coaches claim they werent interested in other jobs and some that claim they love their current jobs.....Nick Saban and even Zo came out saying Tennessee was the place for him.

There's also been jobs you hear everything, like with the football hire.

That should tell you something folks

Shaka and Marshall, ok.

But getting shot down by Miller and Pitino?

Not good news.

No different than football where UT got publicly turned down by numerous coaches before Derrick Freaking Dooley said yes, and then Butch Jones finally said yes. We know how Dooley ended and the jury is still very much out on Jones as well.

People often do not get their first target. It's not uncommon or anything to be ashamed of.

Texas football was turned down by Saban. Michigan was turned down by Miles. Florida got turned down 4 times before they hired Ron Zook. It happens to everyone. Coaches aren't often looking to leave unless they just don't like who they work for, or it's a major move up the pay ladder. Even mighty Kentucky was turned down once, maybe even twice by Donovan.

Actually, nobody remembers that Alabama AD Mal Moore's first choice to be Alabama's football coach in December of '06 was Rich Rodriguez of West Virginia. Great programs (not saying UT bball is ) get turned down all the time - and are often better for it.
