Jeff Goodman tweets UT has Pitinio Jr. on the short list

Tyndall is a more proven coach than Martin, White or Pitino Jr. He'll land at some major school soon and be a home run for them.

Well, he's been a head coach for 8 years, 2 more than Martin. He's been to the tourney twice.

If he did that here, even if he won more games, each progressing year, the fans would want him gone. Maybe he's a better "fit" which might buy him an extra year.

If his last name were "Smith", would this thread even exist? No. The guy is young and inexperienced as a HC. One of the biggest gambles mentioned so far imo. I'll pass.

He took over a Morehead team that had went 4-23 the year prior to his arrival. That's a pretty steep rebuilding project.

Since he got them on track he's winning around 70 percent of his games. He's won 2 conference tournament titles, a regular season title, been to 2 NCAA tournaments so far.

This season he won 29 games, including 2 wins over UTEP and a win @Missouri. Something we failed to manage.

He wins, every stop he makes. He just wins basketball games. 9 years total as a head coach and 200 total wins with those other assets puts him above guys like White, and Pitino Jr. He's also been better than Zo, with far less resources than Zo.

This is one of my favorites. "this coach took over a worse program than this coach"...

Martin took over a program with a bunch of stoners...at the least...failing drug tests, poor grades, some good athletes that had been allowed to absolutely skate...

I don't know what Morehead State's situation was.

You know what I don't care.

Bring on the Tyndall.

Minnesota was picked 9th in the Big Ten and had basically one starter coming back. They finished with the same record as we did and won the NIT. Yeah I know it's the NIT but they won it. Pitino Jr. isn't coming but he can coach.

Are you referring to what he took over at Missouri State or here?

Because if here, you're wrong as heck. I just pointed out to you in another thread that all of Pearls players Zo inherited graduated. I'll wager Golden graduates at Tech, I imagine Jordy and Maymon graduated here too. That tells me they were getting good grades.

Didn't buzz win the nit?

Buzz took over a team that had been to the elite 8 the year before he got there, won the NIT in his one year, then Tulsa immediately went back to the NCAA tournament second round the two years after he left. There was a 10 year run at Tulsa with Tubby Smith, Steve Robinson, Bill Self, Buzz and John Phillips where every one of them but Buzz not only made the NCAAs, they advanced in them.

Leave it to us to hire the one guy out of that group who took Tulsa to the NIT in that run.

The worst thing is, Bill Self was recommended by Ernie Grunfeld and wanted the job. But Dickey hired Jerry Green.

Please don't make me do it...

this place was nearly burnt to the ground with a bad culture, even Hart recognizes the job Martin did in turning it around.

Insult the players that Martin inherited if you wish, the ones I listed that had no major troubles and all of whom graduated.

I for one, will not insult Renaldo, Jordy, Jeronne, Skylar etc etc who played here, gave their all, got their degree and caused no harm whatsoever to the university.

I'm certainly not insulting any of the players that did it the right way and put up with a hell of a lot brought on by the adults who are supposed to have the player's best interests at heart, above all else.

Then what are you talking about with him inheriting drug problems and failing grades? Since every player he inherited graduated on time, which were failing? None of them were suspended for drug violations since Brian Williams, who graduated before Zo, so which did he inherit that were stoners? Though I don't doubt some may have smoked weed, basically everyone I knew in college did at one time or another.

If the AD will give him credit...

...Additionally, the social culture of the men's basketball program has vastly improved under Cuonzo's leadership."

why won't you?

Just woke up to people seriously suggesting Tubby Smith? I think this coaching search has driven everyone insane

He did win a National title and took every team he coached to the NCAA tournament multiple times. You have to be damn good to take Georgia to the NCAA tournament two seasons in a row.

Like SGM said, it would be like rehiring Fulmer. Only hire that would excite me less than Rick Byrd.

Pitino Jr. wont be cheap IMO, so that's good news at least. Tyndall on the flip side would be, but who knows. Maybe Hart tries to get PJR for cheap, and if he can't goes with Tyndall.

No Pitino Jr. won't be cheap, so that means that we will NOT get him. Hart would not pay Shaka (Kahn) Smart, so he won't pay Jr. either.

Scratch Jr. off of your list already.....

It is being reported that Tubby contacted Tennessee and is interested in the job. He had a bad year at Texas Tech, 14-18. He is making 1.8 million. He evidently is not happy there and may leave for less money. His name has also popped up for the Tulsa job. He coached there form 1991-95. He may go back there an end his head coach career at the place it started.

Now the NIT is relevant.
