Recruiting Forum: Football Talk XI

I think laying it out makes it easier to see. The defensive roster spring vs. fall.

Spring

DT: O'Brien, O. Williams, Mixon, Carson, Carr, Vickers
DE: Vereen, J. Williams, J. Johnson, Brown, Miller
LEO: Maggitt, King
MLB: A.J. Johnson, Bynum, Grieco
WLB: Reeves-Maybin, Creamer, Jumper
NB: Coleman, Payne
CB: Sutton, Moseley, Foreman, Jones
SS: McNeil, Orta
FS: Swafford, L. Johnson, Arnold

Fall

DT: O'Brien, Saulsberry, O. Williams, Mixon, Carr, Sawyers, Robertson, Mosley, Carson, Vickers
DE: Vereen, J. Williams, Hendrix, Barnett, J. Johnson, Brown, Miller, Henderson
LEO: Maggitt, Weatherd, King
MLB: A.J. Johnson, Bryant, Bynum, Grieco
WLB: Reeves-Maybin, Bates, Creamer, El. Berry, Jumper
NB: Coleman, Gaulden, Payne
CB: Sutton, Moseley, Ev. Berry, Foreman, Jones
SS: McNeil, Kelly, Orta
FS: Randolph, McDowell, Swafford, L. Johnson, Arnold

Bolded indicates players either injured for spring or yet to enroll. Some guys like Robertson and Evan Berry may start on offense, but as you can see the roster looks completely different.

Nice. This makes me feel better for sure.

I'm sort of thinking that our offensive line woes will still be with us in 2015. If we get our top targets for OLine this year (and DLine) then I think we start really seeing progress in 2016 as far as wins go. What does Butch say? We live in an instant gratification society. You know he's talking about you and Ron when he says that. :)

I hear you. My expectations aren't that high. I think 6 wins this year (maybe 1 or 2 more if we catch some beaks, although I wouldn't bet on it). I think we crack the top 25 in 2015 and have a nice 8-4 or 9-3 type year, with a signature win or two. I agree 2016 (at this rate) is when we should be a serious threat in the East again.

I'm so ready for the first year I look at our schedule and don't see games that are almost certain losses. Bama, OU, and UGA fit that category for me this year. Hopefully by 2016 there won't be any.

Still think we are a 5-6 win team. Depth on the line is a major issue. Was really hoping Riley or Dobbs would pull away by now. I'll be thrilled if we get to 6 wins.

Still have my doubts about Bajakian and Jancek. Bajakian more so than Jancek. Jake has the horses now, let's see what he can do with them.

SN: I think Azzanni has a very bright future ahead of him. I wonder what he could with the play calling duties in his hands.

I'm more in line with us being a 6-7 win team.

I disagree about Dobbs and Ferguson pulling away. I think even if they're performing better than your four year guy, you leave the four year guy in the driver's seat until fall practice at least.

Worley is a guy who is going to give you average-above average play. Riley is inconsistent as hell. He had 2 turnovers yesterday. The other 3 QBs didn't have any TOs.

Does Worley give you the best chance to win over the other 3? That's ultimately the question that needs to be answered. I think it's concerning that a Senior hasn't taken control yet.

In order for this type offense to reach its max potential, you go with Dobbs IMO. He gives you a different dynamic. Now that he has his feet under him, I hope they let Dobbs loose.

Dobbs played well, but he did it against a pretty poor defense.

I just think Worley will distribute, keep the offense on the field, and not turn the ball over.

Worley is the guy, IMO. He has weapons now and is learning pick his spots to keep on the read option. Also, he doesn't make the catastrophic mistakes.

I'm with you on this although while Bajakian may have the horses I don't think he has a line. I actually thought both he and Mahoney were stressed in their media sessions during spring ball - and I fully understand why.

I think Dobbs' mobility and his ability to create when everything breaks down is head and shoulders above Worley.

No matter the choice for the opening game, I still see Worley playing at some point this season. And that's not just mop up duty.

Be interesting to see how it sorts itself out

The O-Line will improve over the summer and into fall camp as they get stronger and a rotation is set.

LT: Gilliam/Blair
LG: Kerbyson
C: Crowder
RG: Jackson
RT: Coleman

This rotation with Weisman as your 6th lineman will only improve as the year goes on.

One would hope. I do. But then we've been here before. I'll believe it when I see it.
