Stokes to go pro

What? You don't think he looks like he's going hungry?

Lol. I think some athletes have expectations of being treated like kings while on campus, and they pretty much are already...compared to normal students, at least.

Doesnt look like it to me

How many double doubles did he have this year? More than 20. He wouldn't be able to do any better than that next year. He's not going to get taller so I don't see how staying another year would have helped him. I really hate to see him go, but I think the chances of his stock dropping are greater than the chances of his stock improving. We won't have the talent next year we had this year so he'd be constantly double and triple teamed, leaving his stats worse than this year.

I hope he has a great career.

Good decision Jarnell. Wish you the best of luck in the pros. Sorry it took the last 10 games of your career for the coach to start using you effectively.

I agree 100%, coaching staff cost the kid millions. 5*'s know to stay away, and I don't blame them! Maybe he'll get some good coaching at he next level, just sayin!!!

Thank you Jarnell for your 2.5 yrs of giving your all to the Vols. Unlike some on here I wish you the best. Money is on the table, go for it. Best of luck!

What were the quotes, I missed them?

“A wake-up call was when I was a freshman here at UT and the Stokes t-shirts had sold out and they had just re-stocked it. I walked in there with my whole family and I asked for a free shirt, and I couldn’t get it.
“I’ve had certain times where it’s hard to pay cell phone bills, car insurance and it was hard to eat at night at certain times. I realized there’s a lot of great people around Tennessee that want to help, but they fear the possibility of what could happen.”
He went on to mention the frustration of seeing his jersey being sold for $100 while he struggled to pay basic bills.

I see no issue with that, he's not claiming he was being starved to death like some were saying he said.

He says "I’ve had certain times where it’s hard to pay cell phone bills, car insurance and it was hard to eat at night at certain times"

The only mention about food is that it's hard to eat at certain times. When reading other players similar like Napier at UCONN they mention the same thing, particularly late hours of the night. Napier said at UCONN the cafeteria where they are permitted to get food closes at 7. Idk about everyone else, but there's many times each week I enjoy a meal after 7pm. Jarnell is also notorious for late night workouts, so it's also possible he was hungry after working out for 2hrs at 1am.

Just a thought.

Yeah my daughter's education cost us a boatload and she had music (which she does professionally now) and intelligences....but guess what?....she still had to buy her own food at 7:00AM....12:00 noon....5:00PM....and after hours....why should athletes be any different??? Blast away....because unless you've been there you have no clue what its like....

And I worked two jobs to provide everything she needed and she played professionally while in school and paid for a lot....lets just be fair about this thing and NOT POLITCIALLY CORRECT!!!!

No offense, but how much money did your daughter single handily generate for the university.

Your daughter didn't generate a penny to the University for her efforts...and if you can't see that then you have no clue...

I won't get into a back and forth with you about this because it is obvious that you have an emotional stance on the issue already, but I think some difference lies in the fact that the university likely didn't profit in the neighborhood of hundreds of thousands of dollars from your daughters voice/musical ability like they have Stokes' athletic ability. Secondly, your daughter was within her rights to work during college, possibly using her talent/ability for profit, where, as an athlete, Stokes is not.

Kudos to holding down two jobs to provide for her though. That is commendable.

While I agree. When I quit a job, I dont blast the salary in my resignation letter. I just say "Thanks for the opportunity and looking forward to the next chapter of my life". His comments have overshadowed the event and the topic seems to be his financial situation instead of his career at UT. Just IMO

Or he is trying to improve the situation for those that follow him. Not knocking you because I have never had a press conference either, but it does seem like a pretty good platform to bring up issues you feel like need to be addressed.

From what I remember, Stokes reportedly has a decent jumper but Martin said it's his fault he doesn't use it in a game. Stokes has a nice stroke on FTs. If he shows he can hit that 15 footer in workouts, he will be alright.

I know you are not comparing them. But i think people forget what an athletic freak Barkley was for his size. He was a once in a lifetime type of player, no fat guy should be able to run and jump like that. Lol

That being said, as I've stated for a year i think Stokes could be a Reggie Evans type player. Solid rebounder that gets garbage buckets, he needs work defensively to be Evans but he's the best comparison. IMO

I think the Evans comparison is really good, totally agree on the comment regarding his need to improve his defense...
I do think Jarnell has a better offensive skill set than RE, but your comparison was good...

I agree Stokes has the better offensive game no doubt, but the athletic difference in the pros will probably negate that to a degree. I could see him, with some work, being a 8-10 pts and 8-10 rebs guy. I always say Evans cause Stokes will have to be that type of player. IMO A tough, grind it out, hustle guy. Ftr that is in no way a knock Evans has had a really solid career, hopefully Stokes can do the same.
