Stokes to go pro

Wish he was staying, but I can't blame him for going. Hope he does well and becomes Jarnell Barkley the terrible and makes an NBA roster. :) Good luck Stokes.

Best of luck to JS. It's been awesome watching him grow from a huge but slightly awkward high schooler into the beast he was this year. He also represented our University well, as has just about every player on Martin's squads. His success in the big league(s) does nothing but help our cause.

Well said. I liked.

Can't blame him for going pro...Next year is going to be a train wreck anyways so why not go make some serious money instead of dealing with all the drama that will be UT basketball next season.

It's going to be a train wreck for all of our opponents.

WE WILL DESTROY THEM ALL!

GO VOLS!

Good Luck J. This is a good call IMO. While I agree he is iffy to make and NBA roster this go around, what would another year in college do to change that? It is not like Martin was going to move him to the three spot to work on his outside game. Would thirty double/doubles in a row next year make him better pro prospect? Doubtful. If his long term goal is to contribute on an NBA team, his best option may be to play in Europe, against bigger skilled players. Pushing around physically immature players in the SEC is not going to increase his skill set anymore, and may be a wasted year in that sense. Would love to have him back and would have agreed with that call as well had he chosen that. But I don't think this is a poor choice for the long term, nor do I think he believes he is guarantee draftee. There are too many experts agreeing on his current value, and Jarnell has handled himself way to well to think he is surrounded by poor advisors. I am sure he has thought of the options if undrafted, or D leagued. Good luck to him!

That's the only reason I see him leaving.

It's not because he's content making a living playing euroball

I think he will make an nba roster. If he dosent then he is still gonna make 300k a year playing basketball over seas. It's a win win situation for him.

I don't necessarily agree with that, Charles Barkley's a Hall of Famer, and played in the NBA for 16 years as a power forward in spite of the fact he was only 6'4" (even though he was listed at 6'6"). He averaged 22 points and 11 boards and won a rebounding title...

Now, I'm not suggesting he's Charles Barkley, but it certainly wouldn't be unprecedented... Clearly, Jarnell's gotta work on things, not the least of which is his mid-range jumper---but in the right situation and the right coaching staff I think he can succeed at the next level...

Stokes is not 6'8 either. I hope he does well, but am afraid he will see a lot of EUROPE in the next few hers.

Is that not happened w Scotty? Kids surround themselves w questionable advice

If Scotty wanted any shot at the NBA, he had to go when he did. The lockout made his draft class really weak. Had he stayed, he would have gotten marginally better, but the class would have been superior to the class his junior year. Staying guaranteed not getting drafted, leaving at least gave him a possibility.

Tennessee is unquestionably a better team with Jarnell next year than without; however, his leaving doesn't break our season.

UT played the style of ball it did (3 out / 2 in motion) this year because we had the Bruise Brothers. If we've got one quality big next year, then we'll adjust. Motion allows you to do that. We can go 4 out and one 1, if we like, which spaces the floor more anyway. There's all kinds of options we have.

We have a smart, high quality coach who knows what he's doing.

Just enjoy the ride. Half of us spent so much time *****ing this year, we couldn't even enjoy a fun season.

We'll be fine.

Good luck, Mr. Stokes! Be a great ambassador for your program, sir! GBO!

Not surprising. 5 star recruits usually don't stick around that long. We were fortunate to have him for 2.5 years.

I know you are not comparing them. But i think people forget what an athletic freak Barkley was for his size. He was a once in a lifetime type of player, no fat guy should be able to run and jump like that. Lol

That being said, as I've stated for a year i think Stokes could be a Reggie Evans type player. Solid rebounder that gets garbage buckets, he needs work defensively to be Evans but he's the best comparison. IMO

Wish Jarnell a great career in the NBA. Even the minimum salary is 816,000 dollars certainly he can make a team and get that amount.

Wish him the best of luck.

Hopson leaving early... bad idea
Stokes leaving early... great idea

Not sure Stokes could have improved his stock next year. Especially with the dumpster fire that's about to go down.

If you were on the Titanic and someone offered you a raft before it started to go down... you'd say no thanks? No way.

Good decision Jarnell. Wish you the best of luck in the pros. Sorry it took the last 10 games of your career for the coach to start using you effectively.

He might not have been able to improve his draft stock, but he may have gotten drafted higher just because of a weaker draft. Either way best of luck, you can't blame a guy for wanting to get paid.

From his quotes really sounds like money was an issue and really hated the fact NCAA was making money off him but he was struggling to pay bills.
