Still too many unknowns to give up on next year

There you go again calling for .500 or worse, yet DENYING you're saying that.

Instead of attempting to put words in my mouth let me give you something a little more concrete. 7-11 is the absolute conference ceiling. So stick with that, and stop making stuff up. This is absolute bottom of the barrel BCS conference talent. Its not even good mid major talent. this team WILL suck. There is no doubt about it. The recruiting job done by this coach and the shape it has his roster in going into year 4 is disastrous.

7. That's middle of the pack, not bottom of the barrel genius.

I'm all for optimism, but next year is looking really, really ugly. I think Stokes saw the writing on the wall and that's why he's leaving.

Richardson is our only proven commodity. Hopefully Hubbs lives up to the hype with a healthy shoulder, but other than that there's very little returning to be excited about. Pops will likely be starting for God's sake.

I didn't say 7th-11th. I said 7-11. As in record wise. If the best you can do is 7-11 in the SEC, you are bottom of the barrel. Genius.

Every team that finishes 7-11 or worse in the SEC finished at or below .500.....so once again, you're saying overall we will be below .500, quit backtracking.

People can make a lot of improvement in their game in a year.

But, tennessee will have a hard time making up for the loss of beef

Losing 80-90% of your offense, .500 doesn't seem too far fetched.

I am looking forward to the team coming to FL next November, but I am not expecting to spend the weekend in the winners bracket like in 2008-09.

It's gonna test Martin's ability to adapt sooner than later. In all 3 seasons he has seemed to wait too long to push the right buttons. He can't go out there trying to play slow and bully guys inside with Pops and Moore, and live off offensive rebounds like last year.

If he's willing to go small and play say Thompson, Hubbs, Richardson, Moore and Rhett/Davis/Cofer and play an uptempo pressing style, they'll be more successful than the sub .500 record people are projecting.

10 teams in the last 13 years have finished 7-11 or worse in the SEC and still finished +.500 overall. At least 2 more finished at .500 overall. If anything last year was the exception that no one did that. Numerous other teams have finished below .500 in conference and WELL over .500 overall. We haven't even seen the nonconference schedule yet reject. You are trying to put words in peoples mouth so you can pretend that .500 would be a success.

8/9

You're going back to when there were less conference games and fewer SEC teams. In the last 2 seasons since the expansion there have been 9 teams finish 7-11 or worse, 8 of those finished with an overall record at or under .500. Now factor in that Tennessee since Martin has been here has always had a tougher OOC schedule than most of the SEC and it's not likely this year will be any different. Therefore, if you're saying AT BEST this team goes 7-11 in SEC, you're saying we will be below .500 overall.

if those guys can shoot the ball better, they can definitely play that way.

they may have to regardless.

Martin is not big on pressing or having players jumping the passing lanes. However, this team will need to create some easy baskets.

There are some pieces in place, it will be intersting to see how he uses them.

No. 12 teams in 13 years. Before the schedule expanded they would have had to be 6-10, which is even worse. Chances are they will be under. Doesn't change the absolute fact that they can still suck and go above. 500 overall. Anyone who thibks going above. 500 overall is an accomplishment is an idiot.

Who's putting words in someone's mouth now, I never said it was an accomplishment?

If you're saying we are going 7-11 or worse in conference, but not gonna finish at or below .500, then you're saying we are going at least 9-3 OOC. Considering the field that is at the Old Spice Classic, plus us playing at Nc State and who knows who we draw in the SEC/Big 12 matchup....you're either predicting a lot of upsets going our way OOC, or are saying we are going <.500

We may not know all the OOC slate, but we know enough to know that if you're saying 7-11 is our ceiling, and that we will finish at or above .500, then you're saying we're gonna tear up our OOC slate, and start the season on fire, something Martin has never done.

Just for clarification sake, you're ok with that? A coach in his fourth year finishing at or below .500? Not judging, just curious.

Yup, and I'm going to say it - We blew our chance at bringing back a great coach.

I'm not going there, but this is a bigger rebuild job than he had when he walked on campus. And it won't be rebuilt in 2 yrs even. Too many holes at center, pf, sf the next 2 years. Still no shooters. Only pgs are not on campus or avgd 2 and 2.

That kind of prep and plan in the business world sinks businesses. And when we are nit bound the next 2 years and people are losing money all around the program, it will suck.

Harsh, but my opinion based on the roster, coaches and how Martin's freshmen and sophs have performed. Why expect anything from this new crew? Based off what?

What guarantee was there in 2011-2012? None, zero. Golden and Maymon jumped up in points because they jumped up in minutes. Same could happen next year.
