Vols ranked in Top 25

Good deal, it does show the voters paying attention to the last month and the tournament. This is the kind of thing we should expect a majority of years.

So who in the blue hell do you think fills up Thompson Boiling & Neyland Stadium? Who do you think the players turn to and wave their arms up and down at to scream louder?

IDIOT...

Butch gets it. He makes sure the faculty, the parents, the alumni, the former players, and THE REST OF US FANS understand that this is OUR team.

Butch also refers to Tennessee's great tradition as "our great tradition and program," even though he's a late comer to such a storied program. But you won't find me correcting him. He's a VFL like the rest of us - whether we played for the Big Orange or adopted them from some remote part of the earth.:hi:

Why do fans say "we" when referring to their favorite team?

Do they go through practice, team events or meetings? Does a coach contact them for advice or their input on the depth chart?

I appreciate a fans loyalty and love for the team(s) they cheer for, but as a fan....there is no we. We as fans cheer for people who have no idea who "we" are nor will most ever find out. So let's cheer for our teams and quit acting like "we" are part of them.

"WE" wear our orange even when things are not going well. "WE" chew our fingernails to the stub during the regular season and tournament time. "WE" take Tums before, during, and after the game. "WE" don't sleep very well after a difficult loss or a great win. "WE" go to every game that we possibly can and "WE" cheer our team as loudly possible. "WE" are Tennessee and if "YOU" don't understand, I am truly sorry.

So is he wrong? If so, what do you disagree with?

We barely made the tourney, and prob won't next year if Stokes doesnt come back. What's wrong with saying that?

The problem is that it is the norm. This statement, standing alone, is not bad. But, put in context with everything else he said while riding into the Sweet 16...ridiculously stupid.

23rd....we went from backing our way into the tourney to backing our way into the top 25. Is there a play in game or does this count?

We may not take the field, court, or any arena, but we are University of Tennessee Volunteers.

I think as much money as people spend on tickets, gear, other Vol stuff... they can say We as much as they want.

Y'all do realize there are serious issues in the world that need to be discussed correct????

Good find OP.

Observation #1: I'm glad basketball's champion is not chosen by the freakin' news media or coaches (errr office assistants). Footballs final 4 is gonna be huge.

#2 (directly related to #1) What does this poll actually mean? Is it which team is playing the best ball at this last moment? Does anything in the "body of work" matter? Why not just take teams exactly how they finished the tourney? Ranking Uconn/KY before UF would never happen in a poll during the season. Just because you win a heads up or go on a good run, that does not negate the body of work. The idea of a subjective ranking is really kind of silly IMO. Also shows how impossibly flawed every poll is when the games get down to being played.

UConn earned their title in every way. But, there's no way I would count on UF being knocked out that way if we rewound to last Friday and did it all again. Florida lost a golden opportunity for the title with that team Donovan & co assembled this year. In a stats world, play the final four 10 times in and UF probably takes it 5 out of that 10 IMO. Yet for UConn, they won "the only one" that matters.

Hah. I estimated pre-season that we were a 15-18 type talented team. Sweet 16 would be a proper accomplishment with a letdown if we lose rnd 32, or a slight over accomplishment if we hit the Elite 8.

Basically, I think Martin & Co ultimately met expectations. They did not exceed them or show to be a failure. It was just ugly along the way.

The way they were playing in the tourny, I would have liked their chances with at least half of the teams ranked higher. I really liked them against Duke.

Well, I think UConn was clearly better than Florida, considering they beat them twice this year. What more do you want? The top two teams are a given and then everything else is subjective. There are teams in the top 25 that lost in the round of 64, so the "body of work" was considered. If they are going to do a poll like this, the only problem I would have is 2 first place votes going to UK and Wichita. That is kind of ridiculous. Otherwise, it is ok.

It's simple really. This top 25 poll is the same as all the others, they just have the information from the tournament to update it.

I guess if you're going to make the top 25 one time in the year... the final rankings are the one to be in

I disagree that UCONN was clearly better than Florida, and you can watch a year of basketball to see the proof. The tourney favors teams like UT and UCONN, who peak at the right time. It makes it exciting.

The system the NBA and MLB use? Best of 7, is clearly how you tell who the "best" team is. Otherwise luck or a thousand outliers can decide it if it's only one night.

I wouldn't mind seeing basketball either go to a format more like baseball where you play small series of games along the way to get down to a small double elimination tourney. This way would eliminate a team just getting crazy hot one night and knocking a better team out in just one game.

Or some type of reseeding by region after each weekend. This way would still be one and done but would favor the higher seeds the whole way.
