Recruiting Forum: Football Talk XI

I think the interior will be good and probably better run blockers than last years group, but if a true freshman and walk on are at tackles then that is about as bad a situation as you can get. If they are having trouble with our pass rushers just wait till they go against SEC talent.

If you remember just a few years ago we had walk-ons playing on the OL. That year those walk-ons helped lead the offense to right at 5000 yards for the season. Just because a walk-on did not come with all the *'s by his name, does not mean he did not become an SEC talent.

The sad thing is those players think this is about them. This is about agents getting access and making money off them. That's why we see so many overblown arguments about how much players are worth monetarily - does anyone in their right mind think the average player at Northwestern brings in a single red cent when coaching, training, facilities, tuition, food, etc. are factored in?

These young men are being sold a big lie about how much their 'market value' is so that agents can get access early (making them money) and lawyers can make money off the lawsuits. Those talking 'market value' and adding up the costs and investments any given institution puts into to creating that player's 'market value.'

Apparently no one is going to be confusing our 5th year senior walk-on with Eric Fisher if the reports about OL play are to be believed. The real story was that Blair, one of our JUCO studs is getting outplayed by the walk-on. You can pretend all you want to that the reason is because we have had this Eric Fisher clone on our bench for the last 4 years and no one noticed before now, but the more likely scenario is that they both have just sucked up to now. Hopefully by fall one of them will have a light come on.

Your previous post essentially came across that playing walk-ons are a bad thing. Several great players have been walk-ons and were solid contributors. I would hope that a 4 yr walk-ons who has more experience with the current system is outplaying a player that has 10 practices worth of experience. The walk on has more collegiate level experience and more mental reps. I am sure Blair will pan out as the season progresses but to discount the value of walk-ons being potential contributors is just ignorant.

Speaking of which, while down in the Tampa area a guy on the radio blasted Gator fans. Said "now all of the sudden everyone on Facebook is a Gator, where were you in football season? "

Essentially then, you are correct. Playing walk-ons is a bad thing if you want to win. And yes, you can always point to some outlier like a 2 star Eric Fisher or some other walk-on fantasy who turned out to be a star but I would ignorantly say they are few and far between. I would think someone who had two years of JUCO ball, where they apparently were a standout trumps going to practice 3 years under Doofus and 1 year under Jones, but maybe not. The bigger point for me is that the JUCO guys are supposed to come in ready to contribute. At least that is what they are expected to do. So when one comes in out of shape and getting beat by a walk-on, your point seems to be that it isn't anything wrong with Blair, it's just we have this fabulous walk-on that is suddenly lighting everybody up. Because we all know all walk-ons are valuable contributors. They are just as talented as anybody else we have on the team. I say that is ignorant. I would take a team full of 4 and 5 stars against a team of your fabulous walk-ons and beat them 10 times out of 10.

They are still talkin about Florida. The whole time they were getting their ass whipped. Tip your hat and move on this is disgusting.

Dang Curt got HE-YOOGE. :eek:hmy:

As an aside, I wonder why AJ always wears long sleeves?

I wonder the same thing. Curt definitely took serious advantage of his redshirt year. Dude was 200 soaking wet when he arrived his FR year. Crazy how much he filled out.

Don't know why this was considered an upset. UCONN is guard heavy and all but center can break the press. Terrible matchup for Florida.

2-0 vs. Florida. Goodnight Gators.

Go Wisconsin!

I bet those same people are no longer Gator fans now. :)
