Hendrix, Barnett, Sawyers and friends better show up ready to play.

The excitement around here better be through the roof if all these freshmen play/start and we're actually decent, because that means the team will be a juggernaut in 2015 and beyond.

I think the DL will be just fine. Early on I think they may give up more yards in the run game, but I think they will pressure the QB a lot more than last years DL. There will be growing pains, but will be some sportscenter moments as well.

I'm excited about the freshmen coming in. Finally will get some speed on the back end and up front. Just look at the impact Sutton made in his first year

Only thing I'm not pumped about is the DL. Seems like most of our worries were justified.

Remember that Saulsberry is out. Obviously, you need more than him, but he has experience, and he is our big guy in the middle.

I am not too worried about the DE's (too much speed, especially with freshmen). The DT's are the concern.

I agree. Saulsberry and O'Brien should be quality starters. It is the 3 or 4 others in the rotation that need to step up in August.

O'Brien is running backup to Owen Williams right now I believe. Mixon and O. Williams are starting DTs now with Saulsberry out.

We'll need a couple incoming DTs to be ready for serious playing time.

I missed Mixon moving to DT? I thought he weighed in around 265lbs?

There's cause for concern on the line but the majority of it shouldn't be directed at the defense...it should be the one that doesn't return any starters from last year.

I'm not somebody's cousin at a coaching clinic, nor am I Butch Jones, it's just my opinion. :hi:

I think some of that is spring practice grouping. If Mixon does add the weight, Saulsberry does get healthy and Owen Williams does beat out Danny, we will be on our way to some decent play. Not great. Decent.

From a poster on VQ...

Not to be the bearer of bad news, but my friend is also attending the coaching clinic (and crashing on my futon) this weekend. What he told me directly opposed everything in that post. I know I don't have much credit around here, but I will let you guys know what I he told me anyway and you can take it or leave it.

The OL, DL, and DBs are bad, like really bad. The kicking situation isn't very good either. He got to go into Elder's office last night and said he seemed optimistic about the TE's, but special teams will be a problem. I am usually a glass half-full kind of guy, but from the sound of it, the coaches aren't banking on setting the world on fire this year.

One bit of good news is that the consensus is Hurd is as advertised and will likely start from the first game on.

If anyone has any questions, I can run them by him and see what he says. Also, we are both going to the scrimmage tomorrow (me as a student, him as a coach). So that will be fun.

Somewhere in East Tennessee, Phil smiles to himself and nods. UT Football is on the way back, fellas.

(sorry, have the world of respect for PF but I couldn't help the joke)

First two, I can see, but the secondary won't be bad come game time.

Randolph injured, Sutton, Moseley playing well, plus at least a couple new guys playing well enough to get playing time.

Won't be nearly as bad as last year.

It also doesn't help (or does, long term) that they're going against one of the most talented WR groups they'll face all year. That will only make them better.

The good news about the bolded part is most of those guys can be replaced this summer. Randolph will be healthy, plus we get TK, McDowell, Gaulden and Berry. That will make the DBs way better. Also, the DBs might looks worse than they actually are because of the guys they are going up against.

And Medley also arrives on campus, so he could increase the kicking game.
