Recruiting Forum: Football Talk XI

I don't think we will have a top 5 class again, but butch can still sell the future to these kids. His only full recruiting class will only be freshman, that's an easy sell for any salesman worth his pay. Regardless of the season, I think we still pull a top 10 class.

An upset or two might get us in the top 5. The potential is there imo.

We have a legitimate shot at the top 5 again, it just depends on how many Emmanuel Moseley's Jones takes in this class (meaning guys he feels really good about that are not recruiting website stars).

Right now, we lead for:

Torrance Gibson, #10 overall player, 5* on 247
Chuma Edoga, #18 overall player, 5* on 247

We have a commitment from:

Preston Williams, #19 overall player, 5* on 247

In the top 3 for:

Shy Tuttle, #21 overall player, 5* on 247
Tim Settle, #23 overall player, 5* on 247

Those 5 players are all ranked higher than our highest ranked player in 2014, by any service.

Not to mention guys like Khalil McKenzie and Drew Richmond, who are both in the top 35 on Rivals.

Nice breakdown. I believe we will have several top 200 players with some lower ranked guys sprinkled in. My guess is we end somewhere around the 8-12 spot in the rankings.

I agree. I think a class like that will keep the ball rolling. I think 2015 is going to be a really good year for us.

Not sure if anything has more info on this kid, but saw this in an article from the NFTC camp in Charlotte.

Brian Chaffin - C Highlight Vine Clip

If recruiting fans are looking for a prospect with a definite plan, Under Armour All-America center Brian Chaffin is your man. The 6-2, 270-pounder with quick feet is attacking the recruiting process with a true understanding and plan that will conclude in the next three months.

“Right now, I’m wide open,” Chaffin said. “I’ve got some visits I want to take in the spring, and I want to see who comes by during the spring. If some new schools come by and show interest, I want to give them their fair share and maybe take a visit. Then shortly after the contact period around May 17 I’m going to sit down with my coach and my parents and make a top four or top three or however many it is and maybe make a visit to those top schools again if possible and make a decision in June.”

The big question as the calendar turns to April is which schools will be on the final list.

“I want to visit Stanford, Tennessee, Auburn and potentially Vandy if they come show interest," Chaffin said. "I have some visits planned coming up. I’m going to Virginia Tech on April 5, the 12th is the NC State spring game and I know I’m going to get to Duke, Carolina and Wake Forest. I’m hearing from the four in-state and Virginia Tech daily. I would say those are coming at me with the gas pedal down.”

Bye bye Chris Johnson

Not worried here. His production has been average at best since his contract holdout. He hasn't been worth the money.

On a sad note I have to leave Jamaica today. Back to Murica where people don't wait on me hand and foot.

Who do you guys think will commit and knock over the first domino? This is from an ESPN article and is pretty eye-opening about QB's coming off the board early. Seems like the next month with all these visits and Spring games, things will really start to shake out at QB recruiting.

Looking at the timing of the commitments of the top 20 quarterbacks from 2010 to 2014, the busiest months were April to July, when 59 percent of those quarterbacks made their commitment. Of the top 20 quarterbacks in the class of 2015, nine are already committed.

In the past five recruiting cycles, only three quarterbacks -- Asiantii Woulard (UCLA, 2013), Treon Harris (Florida, 2014) and Joshua Dobbs (Tennessee, 2013) -- among the top 20 at the position committed in February after their senior season. That number is astonishing considering that most top-level prospects wait to make a commitment.

The quarterback position is different, though, as 78 percent of the top 20 during this time period committed prior to their senior season -- and the spring evaluation period, which runs from April 15 to May 31, generally serves as the start of the busy four months.

Leaving Florida tomorrow NOT SAD.

Just skimmed through Kiper's first three rounds. He's got Tiny going early 2nd to Washington. Only Vol in his mock.

I think Tiny is close to a 4th round pick right now.

4th to 5th round. The NFL guys will be very down on his discipline. He could get picked in the 7th round for all I know. It's more likely 7th than 2nd though.

He reminds me of Bruce Campbell big time.
