BREAKING NEWS!!!Cuonzo Martin removes name from Marquette search

Yeah, legally-speaking that's worse. But doesn't really get to the integrity of the program like a grades-for-sex scandal does.

I'm confused, from my understanding it wasn't a sex for grades thing, because the woman he was accused of having sex with wasn't a professor, she was on the student judicial side of things, and was accused of giving Golden a pass on plagiarism because of their relationship. I fail to see how it was grades for sex, other than it makes your argument sound better.

Lol...so sex for 'a pass on plagiarism' isn't as bad as 'sex for grades?'

Biggest critic of CCM and staff all year long but in the end they did all that we can expect them to do. So it is a deserved extension and raise for the staff.

Next year very well could turn out to be like his first year here when there were no expectations but ended up with good results. Let's all hope so and not for the alternative.

I said it wasn't the same thing, which it's not.

Also, he got kicked off the team, but was allowed to transfer and play immediately by the NCAA. If it were sex for grades that wouldn't happen.

Is a pass on plagiarism that much different or better than grades for sex? Sounds worse to me.

Like I said, he got caught and kicked off the team. What more do you want?

Also, you said, sex for grades, and it, in fact, was not sex for grades.

The AD seems to feel like their is a better social culture, based on the AD saying there is a better social culture, but I guess you probably know better.

Frankly I forgot about the charges against williams, tatum and goins but apparently those charges were reduced/dismissed in plea deal which happens every day in every criminal court in this country.

"Junior center Brian Williams pleaded guilty to drug possession.

Sophomore guard Cameron Tatum pleaded guilty to speeding and all charges were dismissed against junior guard Melvin Goins." Tennessee Volunteers players, former and current, plead to charges - ESPN

How would letting someone get away with plagiarism not effect their grades? As for the AD's comments, you shouldn't be naïve enough not to take them with a huge grain of salt. He wants to justify the new contract terms. He doesn't have much to fall back on in terms of on-court results so he resorts to talk about the "culture". I'd prob do the same thing.

I'm guessing he got an F in the class for the plagiarism. Then he went in front of the judicial review board to see if he was kicked out of school. Martin then cut him loose.

Also, he has a sweet 16 run to fall back on, so that's kind of impressive.

Do you think it is a good social culture to be riding around in a car smoking weed, with open containers and and a gun with a scratched off serial number? That seems like a team activity that would be frowned upon.

And it was frowned upon and the offending players were punished:

Tyler Smith kicked off team;

Goins and Tatum suspended from January 1, 2010 til January 17 and William suspension lasted til Feb 5 resulting in multiple game suspensions.

I never said it was good culture.

Do you feel like they got caught the first time they did this, or that is it maybe had something to do with the "social culture" on the team?

so I guess CCM's players never - ever do anything wrong? Is that what you are saying?

Is it? Didn't we let our starting PG leave because he was hooking up with an admin who was fixing grades? What happened in BP's tenure that was worse than that?

Sounds like an attempt to justify what I'm sure is going to be a whopper of a contract.

How in the hell is that Martin's fault? What Pearl did wrong was within his control. However, I don't think Martin can control who a player or employee of the university sleeps with.

Nope, but he's gone 0fer in terms of having 4 of his 8 top players, including the team leader, getting arrested mid season for driving around with drugs, guns, booze. So that's probably an improvement.

one of his top players kicked off for academic fraud or whatever the charge was and Jemi Mac was booted for charges related to an order of protection and alleged sexual assault. is this the type of appropriate culture you are referring to?
