Recruiting Forum: Football Talk XI

I honestly don't get the Hart haters.

Do people not realize Hamilton left him in a horrid financial situation? Hamilton's accounting tricks, spotty hires, and insane buyouts left the AD nearly bankrupt. IMO, he's done good with what he has.

Excited Cuonzo came back. I'm optimistic he'll recruit better with a sweet sixteen run to sell. Plus, the returning players fully recognize the benefits of buying into his system.

I think Cuonzo can win big here, given enough time, with the style of basketball his teams play.

Mmmmmm...bacon.

I don't really know you, and I don't know your history, but I can say with confidence that posting that gif is the meanest thing you've ever done.

It's good to see that there are fans who are supporting CCM and the basketvols on this thread. The basketball forum is filled with a bunch of chicken littles and trolls.

Im still not sold on martin. Hopefully he continues his success, and im not racist, i hate everyone

At least you want the team to be successful, regardless of the coach. There are people on the BB forum that would rather see Martin fail and be right than see the team be successful.

This year, as incredibly successful up to this point as recruiting has been, is unbelievably important in recruiting OL. We are without a doubt off to a great start with Jones and Stewart (and I am in the minority but really like Jackson at OT), but we have to close with players like Harrell, Edoga, Clark, Boulware, St. Louis, etc. The depth we have is incredibly poor. Wouldn't be shocked to see a few JUCO OL pop up soon as well. We cannot miss on OL this year.

I think its inevitable we end up with a great OL haul based on the number of guys interested in us. The question for me is whether we take 4 or 5, excluding Lovingood.

Agreed. Based on early spring practice reports, opportunities abound for incoming elite OL.

QB, OL and DL recruiting are what I'm following closest, in that order (the rest is gravy IMO). Looks like we are doing well on all three so far.

I'm actually sold on Martin. He won me over in the final weeks of the season. I'm really pulling for him and the team.

I agree, OL recruiting is going very well.

Edoga
Harrel
Richmond
Clark
Boulware
St. Louis
Probably missing others

We're leaders or top group for all of those OL and only have room for 2-3 more.

To balance the for or against Bama Dave argument I offer the following:

Kept Dools after the UK debacle for an additional season of Hades in Knoxville. Planned to keep Dools for a 4th season if he had made it to a bowl. Obviously the Bama/Saban thing was involved as it was with the Sal hire.

Conducted an embarrassing search for a replacement head football coach with Booger providing "assistance". Butch fell in his lap as a panic hire - just like Hamilton did with Dools. Butch chose to be at UT when others did not. He got lucky, Hamilton did not.

Retained Clark in the track program while combining so-called coaching staffs until it simply could not be postponed any longer, per current reports.

Had no part in the Serrano hire.

Remains to be seen on the Zo situation. However, under his supervision basketball programs have make it into the NCAA tourney like 4 times in over 25 years.

Oh, c'mon. Like he had a choice not to make Holly the replacement for Pat. Geez.

Oh, c'mon II. The SEC Network deal with its projected revenue stream is what he budgeted with to restore financial stability to the UTAD.

Keeping it real guys. That does not mean some of the sports and issues will not work out well. But to give Hart full credit for it is just wrong.

Is it too early to know which ones are EE's?

I'm sold on him too. He totally put Tennessee in the spotlight and his teams showed up and played their best ball of the season when everyone was watching. His message and coaching philosophy has been clear and consistent since the day he got here. The only difference now, is that it's proven to work in huge games. That should help him as a coach. That was his first trip to the tournament. That has to be kind of reaffirming for him to know that his style of play can win, and that he is capable of being a successful head coach at this level.

I think we're lucky to have him. I'm excited to see what he can do the next couple years.

I worry about the attention Ferg gets. He might be the guy this year, but I can't help but feel the media hypes him up because they know so many people want him to be the starter because he's the unknown commodity. They know people are more interested in what they haven't seen so they can write up about Ferg and get more clicks...

maybe i'm wrong, but that is what I would do if I was in their shoes.

These are the guys that we currently lead for, IMO.

Chuma Edoga- #2 OG, #54 overall
Drew Richmond- #5 OT, #32 overall
Austin Clark- #8 OT, #66 overall
Tyree St. Louis- 3*, NR (that will change)
Marquell Harrell- 3*, NR (Will definitely change)

I think Boulware goes to Clemson. Givens ends up at Ole Miss or Vandy.

I agree with Wu that we need to score big on the OL this year. I'm eager to see how the WR situation works itself out.
