Recruiting Forum: Football Talk XI

They don't believe in him, therefore they are not going to supply him the resources it takes to succeed.

They are jumping to conclusions. It's selfish of them. This isn't about the donors, it should be about UT. They are doing more bad than good.

Yeah it's selfish of them but the fans who started & signed the petition are just as responsible.

I personally can't wait to see what Derek Barnett does here. He's an underrated freak on the D-line. His athleticism will cause havoc up front. He also has a very good motor playing both ways. One of my favorite gets in this class. Sleeper of the class for me. :)

I know I'm late on naming a starting qb discussion, but if they name RF or JD the #1 after spring that may cause JW to transfer since he only has a year of eligibility left. That wouldn't be good with some thinking NP may transfer out after this semester anyways. I don't see them naming a starter after spring unless it's JW. Even if that's just to keep JW around his last year and push RF and JD throughout the summer and into fall camp. I honestly don't see them naming one at all until fall though even if they have a really good idea who it's gonna be.

As far as the Cuonzo talk, I'm sorry, but I'm still not sold on him. I think us being in the sweet 16 has more to do with the players stepping up their game bc they know this is their last shot at making a run than it has to do with coaching. If some boosters are pulling their support at this point they likely still aren't sold on Zo either. Especially if they know it's hurting recruiting and whatever else. Like I've said before, Zo's a great guy, but I just don't think he's the guy to get this program to where it has the potential to be on a consistent basis despite our current run to S16. We should've been playing a lot closer to the level we are now all year. Or at least the majority of it. JMO

After Rucker's fabrications about 'true fans' and Zo leaving, I don't buy a thing that comes out of the rumor mill. There's been a serious loss of credibility by our basketball reporters to the point where they did damage to the fanbase by fabricating statements.

How? Rucker was the only one, to my knowledge, to fabricate any statement.

The VQ guys know their stuff..if there was talk around the program that Zo might leave, they'd definitely know it.

Maybe they know and maybe they don't but the media has lost my trust with the way this has all been handled. And I say that as someone who was a reporter at one time.

For me it will be a while before they earn it back and VQ is not as much in my doghouse as Rucker is.

last night before i went to bed, i saw a tweet talking about the war room. it said something about checkerboard helmet stickers.... anybody with a VQ sub know whats up?

Anybody think Vic Wharton might get a look on defense when he gets here? I can't remember, was he a safety or corner in high school? He seems like an intriguing prospect at cornerback size wise. I know he's coming in as a receiver, but I remember talk about him being a guy who could potentially play either side when he committed.

Thoughts?

No, he doesn't have the true skill set for CB. Good slot WR and return man though.

Especially with the possible loss of Pig, Wharton in the slot seems more of a given and necessity.

That shuttle time, tho ...

Crazy for a big guy.

There's a small checkerboard sticker you can see it on Jalen's helmet. It's about the size of a flag.

So if he were to play defense, would you think he would be better suited as a safety?

It just seems like we have some other receivers with similar skill set that would probably be ahead of him (Johnson, Jenkins, Pearson, Josh Smith). He seems like a good athlete that we would try to get on the field somehow.

whats it for though?

I really have no idea. I do know that teams have had a little bit of difficulty decaling these new Speed Flex helmets and that's the kind Jalen's wearing but it could just be a reward decal or just testing out the decal.

ETA: I just realized it may be there for a point of reference for filming angles depending on what all they're doing.
