Same sex marriage ban ruled unconstitutional in Michigan

You're an irrational bigot because you're intolerant of religious people. It has nothing to do with public policy. It's got everything to do with you thinking religious people are stupid.

It's like the words don't even have meaning.

However, you stated that "give me a rational explanation that doesn't involved God" (paraphrased). So you have already made the predetermined position that any answer involving spiritual matters is automatically irrational.

So hence, you are being intolerant of a different opinion than yourself.

If I understand him correctly, he's not calling religion or spiritual beliefs irrational, he's saying it's outside the realm of logic. One can be religious and be a logical thinker, but the two are unrelated.

You inferred that he was saying religious answers are irrational. He's not saying that.

1) the notion that slavery could ever be a necessity is outrageous and absurd

2) the notion that we wouldn't have peanut butter today or everything else we have if it weren't for slavery is almost equally absurd.

1.) The pyramids, Europe, the history of mankind, and America's past tobacco boom to develop the country's wealth disagree with you.

2.) So don't use Irish or Blacks as slaves/indentured servants for a couple hundred years and we end up were we are today? I doubt that. If anything we have less crime and boring sports.

The greatest civilizations in human history had slaves. I don't like that fact but I think you have a point. Without them we likely would not be where we are today.

How does the use of slave labor, during an era when many other countries were using slave labor, give us an economic advantage?

Seriously? Yes he was...

WTF liked this? OK, so maybe the pyramids don't happen...that doesn't make slavery a necessity because there is no practical reason for the pyramids (in before someone mentions Stargate). There is no reason to suspect we couldn't have had the tobacco or cotton boom with paid labor. Absolutely 0.

How does the US get hit with the brunt of the blame & criticism.

Because we're American and US slavery is our business. All slavery is bad, but the stuff that happens here concerns me more than anything else.

He said spiritual beliefs are not rational, which is not the same as irrational.

Not rational = not based on logic
Irrational = not thinking clearly

Are you seriously playing the semantics game here? GTFO

And why have you made it your case to interpret what another poster puts out there anyway? He's a big boy and can speak for himself.

Words have meaning.

Think about this for a second...he said something that offended you...I'm trying to explain to you that you interpreted it wrong and should not be offended...you are getting upset at me for trying to take away your reason for being offended.

I guess you just want to be upset. My wife gets like that too, about once a month.

Oh, obviously Mister Websters. You are doing a bang up job BTW.

Nothing offended me, I was actually making a point. Which was made actually before you got into the semantics game here and got on your douche kick in wordsmithing.

Oh cute, I'm on my monthly...

If Septic or VOLatile would like to clarify what they posted, I'll certainly listen. But now it's time for you to bow out and move along. Run along now child and let others speak for themselves.

You're clearly not interested in an adult conversation. Go have play time with Vol Mav and come back when you have calmed down.

I am more interested in what Septic or VOLatile have to say in reference to what I posted and actually have a decent conversation along those lines.

Not interested in your idiocy of semantics here. Which is exactly what you are doing.

I thought I was pretty clear in what I posted. My belief system is based on observational evidence.

You were clear. And I accepted your answer (although not agreeing with it in principle) before Huff decided to interpret what you posted.

Sometimes I think you're a cool guy and then you do stuff like this. Time to grow up, man.

Let me help clarify what I meant.

There is no logical reason for believing in a supernatural deity. Therefore, determining any sense of right or wrong from the supernatural is not rational.

Religious people can be logical and rational in many areas, but those qualities are not applicable to their belief in the supernatural.

Is this my opinion, yep. But it's based on my sense of truth based on factual analysis and predictive reason not faith or religious dogma.

Edit: A word

Are you intentionally trying to goad me today? Nothing better to do with your time? Or are you just getting this hankering to follow me around these threads and hang on every word I post as I've noticed lately?

And that whole "grow up" comment is rich coming from someone who's playing word games.

Humans do a lot of things that defy logic and rationality, but I'm not sure that believing in a deity is at the top of that list.

But again, morality comes down to an opinion based formula, sometimes collective and sometimes individual based. So rational thinking does not always apply as the points can be irrational or rational depending on one's point of view. I may see homosexuality as a whole irrational in the same way that you see belief in God. It's all the matter of perspective.

Excuse me for responding to a comment where you referred to my "idiocy". I don't recall much interaction with you lately, so I don't know what you're talking about "following" you around.

I was right about the "word game".

I wouldn't have said anything if you hadn't brought it up (even after Septic confirmed my interpretation). For some reason you're still trying to rib me about it, so I'd say my comment was fair game.
