Do you make salads for a living? I used to work at a restaraunt with a man we called John the Bigot. I would always send him sweet messages like "I love you John" or "toss my salad", because he was a huge homophobe.
Automatically, no - but in all fairness, usually.
If you've got a lucid, rational reason that doesn't revolve around "it's disgusting and icky because jesus" then lets hear it.
My viewpoint is based on observable and replicable facts.
I have a question for you along these lines...
Why is it if someone holds spiritual beliefs that homosexuality is wrong it's automatically irrational?
ETA: And the second point would be what makes your viewpoint more rational than mine?
Of course. Atheists cannot be bigots against Christians right?
I often find that when people use certain words so often, they don't stop to think about what they really mean. You just used the term "spiritual beliefs" to dictate a sense of morality and/or justification of a sense of wrong.
On the surface it's seems benign, probably due to indoctrination and repetition, i don't know. Harmless as it may seem, that term has oft been used as a belief in supernatural deity(s) (of some sort). That's shaky footing for dictating public policy. What if I used my belief in Thor to deny rights to people who only live in Oklahoma - would that be considered rational? Honestly?
Spiritual beliefs, not rational.
To answer part two of your question... One of us "believes" in an unseen, unheard, unknown 'omnipotent' sky god.
One of us rejects that assertion due to lack of evidence. Being rational, to me, means that truth is dictated by predictive reason and analysis and not tradition, ideology or "belief".
To clarify, atheists aren't just intolerant of christians. In fact atheists and christians actually share in a common thought. Christians believe that 99.999% of other religions are wrong, atheists believe that number to be 100%.
More in common than you thought. No?
However, you stated that "give me a rational explanation that doesn't involved God" (paraphrased). So you have already made the predetermined position that any answer involving spiritual matters is automatically irrational.
So hence, you are being intolerant of a different opinion than yourself.
Wait, where have I heard that before? It's a definition of something...maybe I can find it...of course! Found it!
Bigot - Definition and More from the Free Merriam-Webster Dictionary
So again, what makes your viewpoint stronger or more rational when it comes to facts of morality? If I object to homosexuality based on my spiritual beliefs, does this make me irrational? Does a belief in a divine being make me irrational?
How do you ever function in today's world surrounded by so many irrational people?
Not really you're way off. However you have proven that you're a irrational bigot.
I'm not off at all, it's simple math.
Atheists just reject one more god than you do.
If I'm a bigot because I'm intolerant of people dictating public policy due to their belief in a super hero, then I can totally live with that.
