what other AD's in the SEC do?
In the SEC recently, most schools have hired some well-known and successful Head Coaches. It seems the SEC are becoming a league with a lot fighting power among the names.
Auburn - Bruce Pearl, South Carolina - Frank Martin, Kentucky - Calipari, Florida - Donovan, Arkansas - Mike Anderson, etc.....
Let's say a school like Georgia, Ole Miss, etc... fires their coach who was never a huge success.
What if one of these schools get a "splash" hire like Ben Howland?
You think Hart would look into a "stronger name" just because of that? Or do you think he's not concern at all what the other schools are planning on doing?
Is this the same Howland many around here were strongly against because of who he wasn't? Now he's a "splash" hire? Really?
I have faith that Hart isn't nearly as moronic as some of these posters, he seems halfway intelligent which makes keeping Martin a pretty easy decision.
I agree; plus he knows the same people who are still clinging to any hope Martin is canned would be the first to blast him if he did do that and the expected PR disaster happened and we're stuck with someone even worse than Martin.
I honestly can't believe this thread is even a reality right now. We're about to play for the Sweet 16, which is what everyone thought we should do this year, and someone is still contemplating how Hart might justify firing Martin.
Not sure if seriouswhat other AD's in the SEC do?

I have no doubt either, considering at least one here has stated he shouldn't be back even if he made the Final Four.
I remain convinced the people that say crap like this never watched a minute of UT basketball before they heard that Pearls team was fun to watch. There's just no explanation for this creepy fascination with Pearl.
I can see it now, St. Louis knocks off Louisville and Wichita State...Texas knocks off Michigan. We beat Mercer, Texas and St. Louis to make our first ever final four. I guarantee there would be posters saying how Martin lucked into a final four, or that it's not impressive because we didn't beat anybody.

I'm fascinated by the motivation of players by Pearl which got us to the big dance 6 times, and within a basket of the Final Four. I'm fascinated that he was building a program that was beginning to attract the attention of blue-chip players all over the country. The enthusiasm, charisma and winning spirit he brought to UT was also fascinating ... and contagious.
We had a coach that was like a family member. He mingled with fans said the right things won the big games was always in the NCAA. That coach got fired he left us we felt like we had lost a close friend a family member someone fun to be around. He was gone we wanted him back.
In comes this new guy taking the place of our beloved family member. This guy is quiet doesn't say much. He doesn't say much about games or how were gonna kick somebody's butt. He just goes about his business and without much left on the roster has a winning season. In season two he wins again and we miss the NCAA although it appears evident we had a good enough resume to get in. Year three we barely get in and we realize the bias of the NCAA committee against the SEC. We should have been at least a 8 or 9 seed with out SOS and RPI. Now this quiet coach is making all the right moves making all the right calls the team is playing at a very high level.
Our previous love has moved on to a rival school he is now their coach and our replacement for him suddenly has the team winning in the NCAA. Suddenly everyone feels bad about the past and he is suddenly becoming a great coach He is getting more love we have moved on from the past.
The point being it may have been tough to get to know this new guy and we still may not know him well enough even though he has been here three years. We were kind of suspicious of this soft spoken person we didn't like him as much as the last guy. Suddenly just two games into the tourney we are changing this guy can coach he has this team playing at a high level. Suddenly he is likeable. Hopefully we will give him our full support after this season is done and the next one comes around. There are still gonna be a lot of peaks and valleys it happens to every program just ask the Duke Blue Devils, Cincinnati Bearcats or even Shaka Smart nothing always works out the way it was planned.
Good post. You probably captured most folks feelings. However, I never felt that way about Bruce. If he was a family member, it was the creepy uncle that showed up out of the blue, making slightly inappropriate comments to all the girls, talking loudly over my favorite tv shows, and interrupting me every time I tried to say something. But he brought Moon Pies so I didn't mind too much.
Not only will he stick with Coach Martin, one more win and he will give him a big raise ( or someone will hire him away) and he will give him a 2 year extension at least.. With one more win, (sweet 16) Coach Martin drives the bus!
