jeff-lucPORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. — Treasure Coast High School’s 2010 class will be the first complete one to graduate. Standing out in that group is ESPN’s No. 1-rated inside linebacker, Jeff Luc, who has laid the foundation for future prospects at the emerging football power.

The modest Under Armour All-American is grateful for the national recognition, but appears to be unfazed by his heavy recruitment and accolades. Luc is not one who relishes being in the spotlight; however, he is happy to propel Treasure Coast into the national scene and promote his teammates on the gridiron.

“I’m excited that I’ve had recruiters come in here and look at people other than me, it’s a blessing,” Luc said.

The humble linebacker has embraced certain aspects of the attention.

“The best part is going on all the trips with my teammates and coaches,” explained the five-star linebacker. “I like spending time together — the bond.”

With the good comes the bad, and Luc has dealt with constant phone calls from reporters, who want to know the current scoop on his schools of interest.

“My family had to change the home number because of all the calls,” stated the ESPNU 150 linebacker.

As we head down the stretch, Florida, Georgia, LSU, USC, Tennessee and Alabama appear to be his finalists.

Luc now has a clear picture of the ins and outs of recruiting and will make an educated decision. His experience should also help his teammates make a rational college choice when their time comes. Aside from just deferring some of the attention to fellow Treasure Coast prospects, he can offer solid advice from going through the process as one of the most sought-after linebackers in the country.

ESPNU 150 Watch List defensive backs Keelin Smith and Lamarcus Brutus will be two of the more highly recruited prospects in Florida next year. Luc has already given them guidance.

“I told them enjoy it while you can,” Luc said. “It’ll go by fast, take your time, and enjoy your senior year. Don’t put any pressure on yourself.”

The No. 6 overall prospect in the county said his teammates and family are his motivation and what drives him to be a great football player. By the adoration and support we witnessed at his Under Armour All-American ceremony, the feeling is reciprocal.

Billy Tucker is a recruiting coordinator for Scouts Inc. and has close to a decade of coaching experience at the college and high school level.

I think he would fit right in with this recruiting class, they will keep lineman off your feet so you can make the tackle.
