in Tennessee Vols Football Recruiting

Tyler Bray

Tyler Bray

When Tyler Bray took his official visit to see the Tennessee football program on October 4th many around the recruiting world were expecting a commitment from Bray to the Vols and just four days later he did indeed commit to the upstart Vols program. With just over a month and two weeks past that time VolNation.com caught up with Bray to get his thoughts on the Vols season and how his own season is going for Kingsburg High School.

“We are doing really good, we sit at 6-0 right now and I am getting my stuff ready to head out to practice to get ready for this week,” said Bray. “We have been beating some teams pretty bad and our team is just focused on getting this right and to continue winning.”

While Bray is leading the charge he is first to point out the biggest reason the team is 6-0 is because of the overall play from a team littered with seniors.

“To be honest, we just have a really good team and this town loves it’s football and we have grown up winners,” said Bray. “We have 33 seniors out of 43 players on varsity and for my class we’ve maybe lost three or four games since we were in sixth grade. We’ve grown up loving football along with this town and we just don’t like losing. A big reason we do so well is because we are balanced as a team. Our running back is really good and getting over 100 yards a game and then our offense is getting 400 plus yards a game while our defense only gives up around 100.”

Bray has also had himself a very good first half of a season.

“I have played right where I thought I would play going into this season,” said Bray. “I’ve thrown for 1500 yards, 20 touchdowns, and only had three picks so I’ve been doing pretty good. I’ve just tried to work hard in the off-season and get better. I put on a few more pounds and am now up to 203 and it’s helping me take the hits and stay strong.”

While Bray has been focused on his senior year he’s also kept in touch with the Vols program and followed their season as well.

“I think they started out well and then hit a little bump in the road but from the looks of things they look to have rebounded very well,” said Bray. “I thought Crompton had a really good game last week and the team as a whole look to be getting better and better each week.”

Bray stated he plans to graduate early in December and hopefully enroll in time for spring practice at Tennessee.

“I am on track to graduate in late December and then I just need to make sure I can get out there in time to start school,” said Bray. “Coach Reeves is telling me I can come in and play early if I do well so I’d like to try and get out there and see if I can compete and play as a true freshman.”

While Bray keeps working towards a section title and maybe even a state tile VolNation.com will keep you updated on this commit for the 2010 class.
