Baylor is in the bowl game and that's exactly the point. Kiffin was able to hire someone from the team that is going to the bowl game (from a much higher profile program) even though FAU itself is not in any bowl game. Meaning it's possible to recruit great assistants even before season is over (even to not well known programs), in spite of nonsense many are writing on this forum stating the opposite.

Most schools don't replace their sitting position coaches BEFORE their bowl games. That would be nonsense. :)

Butch will most likely be gone after 2017 season. No decent assistant is going to join this staff under those circumstances. Dave Hart has authority to approve hires if Butch wants to make changes as confirmed by Hyams last week.

Not so fast there, with our front loaded schedule, if Butch(Vols) were to slip up and get fired someone will need to step as interim with the opportunity to win the job permanent. That would be reason enough for a top assistant to come to the Vols.

Who knows a top assistant could come in and make a positive impact and get us over the hump, then they could move on to be a HC. So don't get down yet that a top coach could come in and save the program. Maybe they won't set the bar as low as they did for Shoop. Shoop did what he was hired to do and still has gotten bashed for it.

I wonder if Butch would get as much credit for a hire that turns out great as he would get blame for a hire that turns out to be a bust?

Butch has done plenty to deserve credit while at the same time he has done plenty to get criticism, there is no need to exaggerate either side. Make the hires needed, get some good QB play, tighten up the defense, Team 121 could be better than some expect, if they meet my expectations every Vol fan across the world will be happy, happy, happy(think duck dynasty).

He knows Hoke very well. Has had Hoke as a guest at our practices more than once. And of course he knows Fair. He also knows Helfrich from the 45 point ass whipping he gave him a few years back.

Really surprised they're letting Hart approve any hires Jones wants to make at this point. Bad idea imo.

I agree that Jones will be done after 2017.

Hart approve hires? Has he been in his office since Oct? He's been more visible than Hillary and Bill after election.
