What are you listening to?

Sooooo...

For anyone who knows and loves blue-eyed soul, here's an interview by Rick Beato with Michael McDonald, who has often said that he was inspired by Marvin Gaye. If you've ever wondered how people get into music, here was one path. He has some serious history with the greats of ole skool R&B.

(it's a long interview, nearly two hours, so you might want to save it for when you have some time.) Random note; it's interesting (to me) how his speaking voice is pitched so much lower than his singing voice.

@31:20 - the Doobie Brothers need some help, tomorrow

@47:30/ 49:00/ 49:32 - when music went to hell

I've always loved his music, including with the Doobies, although I understand why hard-core old-school Doobie fans thought he ruined the band. But I still am happy to hear his voice, even with a sometimes over-fraught tenor, and this might be my favorite, with of course Patti LaBelle:

Loosing you, it cut like a knife,
You walked out, and there went my life

@Vjcvette, I'm guessing that you love some Michael McDonald!
