I remember when ESPN was reporting that Cutcliffe had been hired. I was like "Oh No!...not that guy. He is about as inspiring as the local newspaper's obituary."
Then, he publicly turned down the job (more likely that all the blow-back from the early reports made Hamilton retract the offer, if it was ever extended in the first place). That left Dooley and Kevin Sumlin (and the Air Force guy) as the two remaining front-runners.
Why on Earth did Hamilton choose a guy with a losing record as a HC (Dooley), from a 2nd Tier conference....over a guy who had a winning record and one of the rising names in coaching (Sumlin)? And so many folks in the fanbase adopted this "Woe is us...nobody wants to coach here" mentality.
Kevin Sumlin would have been a damn-good hire and we'd be 3yrs further down the road to national relevance, by now. Mike Hamilton, the gift that just keeps on giving. :furious3:
