I'm not sure I understand being shocked. If you aren't performing the team needs options. If you get hurt, the team needs options. The team has the right to have a competent back up. For the reasons already listed and to keep the starter motivated.

Let’s pretend if you were a baker and you had everything except eggs to make your cake. You call and order your last ingredient but whenever it arrives they send you more icing instead of the eggs you needed. Whenever you ask them how you are suppose to finish making your cake without eggs they respond, “We don’t care just get it done.” You proceed to go get the eggs yourself but all the stores in town are out of eggs. You even try going directly to local farms and all of their chickens and eggs are nowhere to be found. You can’t even find a chicken on the side of the road. What would you do now? How would you feel if you weren’t given all the ingredients to succeed and whenever you ask for the one thing you need they give you something you already have and won’t use for a long time?
