Josh Dobbs (merged)

The NFL is investigating after the Steelers were using a deflated football during the third quarter of Thursday night’s preseason game against the Eagles, according to Howard Eskin of WIP.

Eskin, who was working the game as the sideline reporter on the Eagles’ broadcast, said he saw the football in question and it was “like a marshmallow.”

The incident took place during the third quarter while Mason Rudolph was playing quarterback for the Steelers, according to Eskin.

Had to just be a bad ball or something. Doesn't make sense that anybody is doing that on purpose early in preseason.

LOL. If this was done by Mason Rudolph, he could be trying to overcompensate for his weak arm strength.

Sad that D4H is resorting to trying to sabotage Rudolph by sneaking in and deflating one of his footballs.

LOL. I don't need to do anything. Mason Rudolph is not talented enough for me to be worried. Like I said after the draft, if the Steelers had drafted Lamar Jackson or even Kyle Lauletta, I would have been concerned. Those guys have the talent to be solid starters in this league. Rudolph doesn't. He's Trent Edwards 2.0. A backup QB.

Perhaps...but you'll forgive us if, given your history, we'll wait for what actually happens vs what you predict. The two have shown to have a very poor correlation to this point.

D4H was wrong on some stuff? Where? You're lying. #fakenews

Again, you have no reason to be worried about Mason Rudolph. He's guaranteed a roster spot. Your prediction hinges on Dobbs beating out Landry Jones.

No it doesn't. If the Steelers are stupid enough to release Dobbs while keeping 2 QBs that are far inferior, it'll be their loss.

I don't know how much of the preseason you watched last night but there are a lot of awful backup QBs in the NFL. That 35 yard bullet of a TD Dobbs threw was better than nearly every other QB who played last night. Because of his high talent level, there would be 20 teams clamoring to sign Dobbs onto their active roster in the unlikely event he's released by the Steelers.

With that said, I think the Steelers keep 4 QBs or trade Landry Jones. They're not stupid enough to let a talent like Josh go for nothing.

Well, you predicted that Dobbs would replace an injured Ben Roethlisberger and lead the Steelers to a Super Bowl win. If Dobbs gets released by the Steelers, it will be somewhat difficult for your prediction to come to pass.

Now, you also hedged and said that Dobbs will lead whatever team he's on to a Super Bowl win, but that prediction was a little more vague in that it certainly couldn't depend on a Ben Roethlisberger injury. So, yeah, that prediction is still in play. But let's not pretend like you never made the original prediction.

A bit of the Titans game and then some highlights.

I know you like to make up your own definitions for common terms, but that wasn't a "bullet." Dobbs put a ton of air under that ball. And that's a good, thing, because it was the appropriate throw in that instance. His receiver was covered, so Dobbs overthrew him and let him make a play on a ball the DB couldn't touch.

Because of his high talent level, there would be 20 teams clamoring to sign Dobbs onto their active roster in the unlikely event he's released by the Steelers.

You may be right.

If the Steelers keep 4 QBs, then Dobbs is on the practice squad. There is no other possibility.

Keeping 4 QBs is extremely unlikely but not impossible. Its not against the rules. And the Steelers have done it before in 1995 after drafting Kordell Stewart.

If the Steelers are smart, they would trade or release Landry Jones. But I'm not sure they are smart given their recent draft selections.

It's not impossible. It's just horrendous roster management.

Stewart primarily played wide receiver during his first couple of years in the league, and the Steelers utilized the now-defunct 3rd QB rule to dress Jim Miller.

Don't pretend to really know how this will all play out, but one thing I do know, there isn't a chance in hell the Steelers keep 4 QBs on the active roster. If anything they will put Dobbs on the PS or release pornstache.

are you calling Jones "pornstache?" in his limited duty last night, he lit up. Going to take a lot of work to pass him. Dobbs will likely just be the odd man out. Despite what diffledork (D4H) wants to believe, Rudolph is safe. Dobbs will either be traded or wind up utilizing that fancy degree barring something unbelievably outstanding from Dobbs. Dobbs' TD was a good throw, but it was anything but a bullet. He threw it up there and let the receiver make a play. He stared down his receiver on the INT, letting Douglas give up on his man and come in to get the INT. As mentioned endlessly here, if the Steelers had 1/4 the faith in Dobbs that D4H has, Rudolph would've never been drafted. Dobbs has too many hurdles to overcome to not be the odd man out in Pittsburgh. They won't keep 4 quarterbacks on the 53 man roster. Period.

The NFL released a statement regarding a report of a deflated football from Thursday night's preseason tilt between the Steelers and Eagles -- a 31-14 win for Pittsburgh.
"All footballs were in compliance with NFL rules following the pregame inspection process and all proper procedures were followed," NFL vice president of football communications Michael Signora said in a statement. "In the third quarter, a football that was found to be defective was removed from play, will be sent back to Wilson for review."

He had like 4 catches in his first two years and some pitch rushing yards, more so as a runner than a route runner. But yes, he didn't really become a QB until year 3.

Funny, I had no idea (yes I did) I would see D4H calling Dobbs TD a "bullet" instead of what it was .. a lofted pass to the back of the end zone that 75% of the college QBs could also make. Nice try though. Learn the QB position before you make predictions man. Your boys Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson didn't look that great last night either. Both made some pretty bad throws on their way to south of the 50% passing mark. You can't out athlete guys enough in the NFL to be a QB.

Stewart was a moderately effective receiver in his first couple years. Played as a receiver in 26 games in his first 2 years with over 500 yards on 40 + catches.

Oh I know how this will play out. One of two scenarios will happen: (1) the Steelers will keep Dobbs and he will lead them to 4 Super Bowl titles over the next 15-20 years; or (2) the Steelers will release Dobbs, he will sign with another team, and then proceed to win 4 Super Bowl titles for that team making the Steelers the dumbest franchise in professional sports history.

Those are the only 2 plausible scenarios.

Remind me, who had your top rated draft class last year?

Steelers. I still love their 2017 draft class. Dobbs, Conner, JuJu, Watt, and Sutton look like surefire Pro Bowlers. I even love the pick of Brian Allen in the 5th round. He looked really good last night. I think he has a future as a starting CB in this league. Landing 5 pro-bowlers and another solid starter out of one draft class is amazing and will go down as one of the best in NFL history.

My criticism was targeted at their 2018 draft class. After all the amazing picks they made last year, I had high expectations for them in 2018. As talented as the 2017 draft was, the 2018 draft had even more talent. And yet with all that talent available, the Steelers missed on almost every pick. They either picked guys a round too early for my taste (i.e. James Washington) or they drafted guys with very limited ceilings (i.e. Mason Rudolph). I think Terrell Edmunds will be a good player. Late in the 1st round is good value for him. However, with almost every other pick, the Steelers reached and passed on guys who I thought were much better.

Only time will tell but 2018 was a missed opportunity for the Steelers. If they had drafted better in 2018, they would have set themselves up for a dynasty over the next 6-7 years. With that said, the 2017 class is so good that they should still be the favorite to win multiple Super Bowls over the next 5 years with Josh Dobbs as their starting QB.

So, Josh Dobbs managed to play for the worst coach in college football history (your words), and is potentially playing for the dumbest franchise in professional sports history (your words). What if Josh Dobbs just has rotten luck? What if he is permanently hampered by idiots?

Oh my God! You've already built your excuse, you glorious genius!
