Recruiting Violations Involving Torrance Gibson?

The point still stands and a Florida reporter is hardly 'in the know' about UT. You can't read that without seeing an agenda to smear UT there. In some ways, the fact that it's yellow journalism makes it worse. Unethical drivel.

FWIW, links are helpful.
It's for Miami insiders IIRC so unless you would want to subscribe, I don't think you'd be able to see it. That's why it is poorly screen capped.

Here's the dude's twitter though if you care to see his profile.

It's irrelevant, anyway....the NCAA is taking it in shorts lately. Catching serious heat from all sides. The courts, the power conferences, new college player's unions, Congress, etc.

Just saw an article yesterday where the tax filings revealed the NCAA president got a bonus in excess of $1mill last year, and the NCAA establishment, alone (not including all the University members), raked in $32mill in profits last year.

They are the epitomy of the Rich getting Richer while the poor are getting poorer (trying to insure the players who make them those profits....don't get squat. Just their scholarships and that's it).

The same scholarships that tennis or volleyball players get. Kids who earn academic merit scholarships don't have the workload these college athlete's have and they get a full ride. So, yeah...the NCAA has as about as much of a chance of surviving as a wounded animal among a pack of hyenas.

A minor violation for giving a recruit a ride home is the last thing the NCAA should be worried about.

When it's behind a paywall and not shone to the public it insulates him. Free speech is quite strong in this country as it's difficult to prove malicious intention and not worth the hassle for a school to bother with. Silly guy just thought he wouldn't get caught pandering to homers with his conspiracy theories.

ETA: I also took you at your word that this guy was a reporter. I just find him a bad one.

Lol probably so. I'm not for certain it's behind a paywall but I'm assuming it is since only the screencaps are swirling.

The follow up is him back peddling as fast as he can. I doubt it's true but I just wanted a discussion away from the hell that is the TG thread

Never heard of that writer, is he credible? It all seems a little unbelievable to me. Maybe there is a tad bit of truth hidden in there somewhere, but who knows. If any of the story is true, hopefully the majority of it was made up, and based purely off of rumors.

One other thing OddFuture, I'm grateful that you've revealed to us exactly where this BS 'ncaa rumor' stuff is coming from. I already had it narrowed down to the U and OSU - the U has a very long history of playing dirtier than most.

Idk if he's credible like we would consider Hubbs credible, but he's a legit writer from what I've heard.

He's very homerish in blasting TG and not Snelson though.

So, basically, more than half of the story is admittedly false yet Mr. Odol still expects us to find him "credible". This guy is trying way too hard to rationalize a complicated situation and doing the kid no favors by throwing him in the fire - especially by calling his coaching staff afterwards, that was uncalled for IMO. He is the one saying it does Torrance more harm by acknowledging it on Twitter, yet his original post - the one inciting all the drama - is, by his own account, nearly 50% false. Real smart.

This guy just keeps digging his hole. Hope he's got a sharp spade!

That's hilarious. It's true though. This Miami writer blasted multiple schools today, including his own. What a dunderhead.

This guy made claims that he himself has had to correct already. What an idiot. For example:

Claim 1: Ran up a huge bill in his hotel room. Correction: He stayed in the dorms.

Claim 2: UT pulled his scholarship offer. Correction: No, they didn't.

Claim 3: A UT coach took him home. Correction: He flew home.

Claim 4: Lobster! Correction: They didn't order lobster.

So yeah, everything else he penned was true! According to him at least. Now he is sorry that one of his 50 subscribers has dropped a dime on him. I don't know who would pay for insider info that has to be corrected later the same day.

This is the jokers followup to the story. He really wishes Gibson hadn't posted all of those mean rumors though!

Did I mention that the NCAA is currently trying to keep it's own arse out of the fire, and has little time or incentive to be chasing down rumors...when all signs are pointing toward it being disbanded or dramatically restructured?

Hard to be bullying someone else when you're your getting your teeth kicked in, as it were.

Fair enough. The whole UT is cheating thing just pissed me off. Guess I'm getting grumpy with the lack of sleep. I didn't mean to bite your head off - I'm usually much better at making my point with politeness. And like I said, you've solved a mystery for me by showing who it is behind this junk. I also just came from a site where we were getting bashed pretty hard. But all that matters less than making it right with my fellow vol fan - sorry I jumped you. :toast:

It was with good intentions my man. The dude tried to tarnish our name. Without this thread we wouldn't be aware of this or the follow up though you know? It's all good man. :toast:

He has a dead site with a "Members Only" section of the forum. That is where he posted this crap originally. Your screen cap probably came from a different 'canes site.

So crappy reporter site:Miami Hurricanes | CaneInsider

Rival site that is posting screen caps: Cane Insight: More rumors

A few comments on the latter site suggested that the crap reporter owes an apology to UT and our boosters along with TG and his family.

The article? If a booster gave him a bunch of perks and all of that story is true, it could be a problem for UT. If the compliance department gets mad when you put recruits names on a rock, I doubt they want people supply hundreds of dollars, hooking kids up with "escorts", and driving them to and from FL.

ehh, there's a difference between visible and invisible. Everyone cheats, it's who can remain the least visible. Painting the rock is 150% visible. Sliding a bill or five can be quite invisible.

Sounds like an extravagant story. How would he hire escorts if he's not even a senior in high school yet (unless he's failed a grade)? I doubt there's even an escort service in Knoxville.

Yellowpages.com says otherwise, to the tune of 39 different proprietors. Can't vouch for any of them, but yeah...we are all grown up it seems.

This guy also calls himself a multi-media mogul... And claims to be an assistant minister at a church... Certainly seems like a great guy.

First indication that this story is a lie: What South Florida kid comes to K-Town and orders sea food? That's like me going to Miami (cursed be thy name) and ordering beans and cornbread.

I realize that now and honestly I should've known that your intentions were good from the start. You've made some good contributions around here. I suppose we have have those days but I'm still the guilty one this evening. So I'm today's dolt. :)

It's easy to see now your info. is definitely useful and explains a lot about what the heck has been going on. :hi:

I actually think I remember a picture he tweeted of either on a plane or what was clearly, at least to me, the knoxville airport.

This is such an intense rumor. People are losing their minds about this guy. I'm ready to move on to the 2016 class

I can confirm he was on the Allegiant flight home (which was delayed til the next morning due to pilots working too many hours) My parents were on same flight and had a visual.

Well this tale said a GA took him home, which I doubt happened. That could ruin that GAs career idk the team punishment for that either.

I was just wanting discussion like this. I know LV was adamant about possible violations going on his last visit.

If by LV you mean me, I'm not sure what you're talking about.

While I love a little TG discussion, I can assure you that I have never brought up possible recruiting violations on any of his visits to Tennessee. Other than the guys from Chattanooga supposedly picking him up and bringing him to Knoxville, I have no clue about anything that would be questionable "violation wise" at all concerning TG and UT. Even the ride to Knoxville was more of a "is the kid really that stupid to just hop in the car with people he does not know" than any sort of violation.
