Question for you guys, & don't take this as I want to fire Dooley & hire Kelly b/c it's not true, but where do you guys think the Tennessee football program would be at today if Tennessee had offered the job to Brian Kelly 4 years ago & he had taken it instead of us hiring Lane Kiffin?

At the time Brian Kelly was the guy I wanted to hire.

Just a hypothetical question.

I think what you're watching from Notre Dame this year would be indicative of where we would be at this point under Kelly.

He was undoubtedly my #1 candidate too.

You must not read a lot of posts on volnation.

Lol! No that's just a dumb post. I wish we had Les. 2 SEC Championships 1 National Championship 2 appearances. National Title contender almost every year. Les may make some wild and questionable calls. But he's a damn good coach that finds ways to get desired results. 80-18 record at LSU. Has kept LSU a powerhouse. It's harder to stay at the top than it is to work your way up. Saban gave LSU a new standard, and Les has been able to live up to it. It was an incredibly dumb post.

Brian Kelly being catholic would have left as soon as ND came calling...so its hard to tell how long he would have stayed at UT if he decided to come...no doubt he would have been winning here but how long it would have taken remains unseen cause of how low on talent UT was at the end of 2008

Good thing for USC they were more patient than you with Spurrier.

Dude...Spurrier is one of the best HC's the SEC has ever seen...of course he'd get more time.

Dooley's resume does not warrant patience, especially when he has a team that SHOULD win 8 games.

I really don't see many arguments for his résumé warranting him some more time. It's more of the state o the program he took over that warrants more patience with him. But we are almost at SEC level talent all over the field. But we are at a conference USA level in the secondary. The only part of the squad that is really lacking talent wise.

So a proven commodity takes 6 years and we expect faster from DD?

We desperately need kicking specialists also.

I'm not advocatint impatience, and I was one of the biggest defenders for the situation he inherited.

It's simple, I'm SICK of mediocrity.

And until I see something that leads me to believe that Dooley will produce anything other than mediocre football, I will continue to believe he's in over his head. Sometimes it takes a fresh approach to really tip the scales.

I like Dooley and I'm not trying to start yet another "should he stay or should he go" (shout out the The Clash) debate but I'm just tired of UT being an also-ran.

I thought this thread was created as an alternative to the "cheer Tennessee to defeat so Dooley can be fired and I can say told ya so" threads that dominate the FF. hate that the discussion here has fallen to that level lately.

Plenty of fire Dooley threads elsewhere. Would be great if this one was just about the team, the players, the recruits and our upcoming opponents.

I agree with you but its not like this forum is immune to that discussion. Whether you like it or not, its going to be discussed. I'd rather keep it sane, however.

The football forum has gone full-retard.

SCe is a much tougher gig and save the inherited BS.

Inheriting a program from a hall of fame coach is a tougher gig than what DD got? SC talent is worse than TN talent? How much attrition did Spurrier walk into? Do you ever have actual facts, or just chronic, negative nonsense?

FWIW, Neal, Hunter and Jordan McRae are at Cookout on the Strip. Was eating dinner and they walked in. They are signing Autographs and stuff.

And what facts have led you to believe that DD is the cause of the mediocrity? Look at every program that has gone through a bad time. They NEVER come out of it in less than four years. Bama had Shula start the process, SCe had Holtz, UF had Zook. You don't go from bad to elite without time, and lots of it. I'm not saying DD is good enough or ever will be, but I'm not going to make a judgment when history tells us that rebuilding a program takes longer than DD has had so far.

Yep.

So guys, we have 6 days till Mississippi St. Whats everybody's thoughts on the game? I think UT wins by 10+. The running game continues to improve and the defense comes out with a new attitude and actually stops somebody this weekend. Hopefully Tiny makes Denico his b#### and smacks him around all game.

I would expect UT to win this one. We seem to play better away from home (see NC St. and Georgia). 34-26 UT.

Yeah, that HOF coach of ours left us in great position. Holtz was well past his prime. SC instate talent is better, but are you gonna tell me that program is even close to being on our level?
