I think it was in the '70's, but the U.S. govt conducted a study on marijuana and its medicinal effects. After the study ended, the govt continued to supply the participants with marijuana. Part of the agreement is the govt would do this for life. I don't believe too many of the participants are left alive, but I saw one on TV several years ago who talked about how the govt sent him his marijuana every month. He even had a special permit he carried around with him, issued by the govt, to inform cops he was legally allowed to smoke his weed. And this was back before legalization in various states started to happen. Guy had some rare kind of bone cancer. What was funny to me is they filmed him in D.C., and showed him smoking his joints in front of the Capitol.
