NCAA Baseball Postseason Thread

 Huh? Are you sure you've been watching the games? These days Sully's position players routinely rank in the Top 10 nationally in fielding percentage...

2017 - #8 - .981
2016 - #3 - .982
2015 - #1 - .984
2014 - #24 - .975
2013 - #33 - .975
2012 - #16 - .977
2011 - #33 - .974
2010 - #6 - .978
2009 - #95 - .966
2008 - #138 - .963

Looks like some pretty serious improvement going on after his first 2 seasons to me.

Amazing that he's made the post-season every year at UF, been to the CWS 6 of his 10 years at UF, made the Finals twice, won a National Championship, won 4 SEC and 2 SECT titles, was voted SEC COY twice, and voted Baseball America National COY once, all while his position players were being poorly coached. Great pitching alone does not accomplish all that. Plain and simple.

THey the good because they are elite talents. Not because they are coached up. You need to look at things like bunting and baserunning to judge that.

Don't be a prisoner of the moment. O'Sullivan has had some teams that can flat out pound the ball. This wasn't one of them.

Neither was last year (which is a lot of this team). The starting lineup in Hoover last year had 1-2 guys over .300 and a lot below .250. It was startling to see their numbers on the big board vs aTm during the championship game.

Another swing and miss for Kendall Rogers.

Mark Calvi is a fool for telling the Vols no unless money doesn't matter to him.

Kingston, as of 2-3 days ago, was the only known name to have interviewed. Granted Sully couldn't yet but that was always a pipe dream. As much as they love baseball, I just didn't see SCar ponying up $1.2M+ for a coach.

Rogers is saying once UF kept winning it was likely Sully wouldn't leave. Why? It's already been proven you can win a title at UF, getting there is the hard part and he's done that 6x and they had made 3 title games in 12 years. He didn't need to win it to convince himself to stay or to price himself out of SCar's range. He stayed because A) he wanted to b) he's at a top 5 and possibly the top job in the country in terms of talent and ability to win.

Rogers failed miserably this offseason and has come up with excuse after excuse to cover his outlandish predictions.

That's ridiculous; bunting is determined by a coach's offensive philosophy (small ball or not), his own roster, the opponent's pitching, or is situational during games. Our baserunning was great most of the year with only a few blunders that were costly.

A much better example of gameday coaching was UF's 19 1-run game victories; tops in the nation... no other team had more than 14, and that was the team that was ranked #1 almost the entire season, Oregon State.

UF hitters struggled early in the season, and we lost 1 to Jacksonville, 1 of 2 to UCF, 2 to Florida Gulf Coast, and 3 to AU. Only highlight at that stage was a sweep of Miami and a win over FSU.

Sully kept coaching 'em up (poorly in your opinion). The evidence that they got better by the coaching?

We then won the series against LSU, beat FSU again, and swept Mizzou. We lost the UT series when UT won 2 and UF won 1 1-run games.

That's the last series we'd lose. Beat FSU again to get the series sweep, beat VU 2-1, beat USC 2-1, swept UGA, avenged the early season loss to Jacksonville, swept Ole Miss, swept Bama, and beat UK 2-1 to end the regular season.

UF started its SEC season 6-6; and then went on a 15-3 tear to finish it up.

That's called getting better as the season wore on, and a shining example of getting coached up.

Then, of course, in addition to his 2011 National COY award from Baseball America, he just added 2 more National COY awards from Collegiate Baseball and D1baseball.com yesterday. http://floridagators.com/news/2017/6/30/baseball-o-sullivan-named-national-coach-of-the-year.aspx

Number of bunts is coaching choice. Lack of being able to execute is poor coaching of the technique.

Great bullpens win 1 run games and you play more of them when your offense sucks.

Congrats to the Gators joining NBA Cavs because no championship drought is over same sunmer the wonderful movie Wonder Woman is released which also ended the drought of feature female super hero movies being bad or terrible.
