For the record on Butch - his coaching career here has gone exactly as one could have expected it to looking at his past stops. They sort of suck the first year, he brings in a massive recruiting haul, and they turn it around in the second year - if not significantly, at least noticeably. I don't expect we'll rack up 10 wins in 2014 like he did his second year at Cincy, but we also didn't go 4-8 like he did his first year at Cincy either. I'm expecting a solid 7-8 wins this year, and unlike last year, I think he can do it as long as the defensive is serviceable. Last year's problem was that the defense would start games really strong, but as the offense kept going 3-and-out they would get tired and we didn't have the depth to replace them. If the offense can stay on the field a few more series there's no question we get Vandy and UGA and then everyone loves Butch. But he didn't have much to work with last year, if we're being honest, outside of North, Raijon, and Palardy.
The biggest problem with last years team was the lack of team speed and quickness on the roster, and it was manifested in all three phases of the game, ST, O, but mostly on D. This years team will be much faster, but less experienced.
I will take a smaller, faster, quicker team over a big, bulky, large team anytime.
