Did he ever claim he met her in person?

according to article, yes

Nov. 28, 2009: Te'o and Kekua meet after Stanford's 45-38 victory over Notre Dame in Palo Alto, according to the South Bend Tribune: "Their stares got pleasantly tangled, then Manti Te'o extended his hand to the stranger with a warm smile and soulful eyes." Kekua, a Stanford student, swaps phone numbers with Te'o.

This seems more plausible. He can't be as stupid as the kid who lied that he had a D1 FB scholly and then held a press conference at his HS.

How could anybody honestly believe they have a girlfriend/spouse for that long and never even lay eyes on the person?

Did he say that, or someone else?

some suggestions Ive heard is he and the other guy are possibly gay?

So, in order to do this, he makes up a fake girlfriend?

Okay...I get that.

Then why fake her death? I can't believe he's that stupid.

Does ND actually expect people to believe that Manti was the victim? How the hell could he be stupid enough to think he had a girlfriend for almost a year, not having ever met her?

Obviously you have never seen the show catfish on mtv

Full quote:

On Dec. 26, Notre Dame coaches were informed by Manti Te'o and his parents that Manti had been the victim of what appears to be a hoax in which someone using the fictitious name Lennay Kekua apparently ingratiated herself with Manti and then conspired with others to lead him to believe she had tragically died of leukemia. The University immediately initiated an investigation to assist Manti and his family in discovering the motive for and nature of this hoax. While the proper authorities will continue to investigate this troubling matter, this appears to be, at a minimum, a sad and very cruel deception to entertain its perpetrators.

"All publicity is good publicity." - the great Lane Kiffin

Not even the great Lane Kiffin thinks that pretending to have a girlfriend and then claiming she died of cancer is a good idea.

So, in all those on-camera interviews, he never thought it important to mention that he'd never met the girl he called "the love of my life"?

and that statement makes no sense whatsoever. How can you have a gf since 09, claimed to talk to her on the phone while she was dieing, and sending her tweets to a profile with a fake picture on it..... and there are no pictures of them together anywhere.
