it's a numbers game. we don't have them in spots, DL, CB and OL. and we need help there immediately, and 3 years from now.
going the Juco route in year 1 hopefully fills some holes now, and allows you to recruit the future at the same time. it also buys you some time on evaluating and developing some of the younger FR and SO currently on the roster that you simply may not know enough about yet.
we weren't a great rotating team in the first place. you bring these kind of guys in, you at least give yourself a shot at creating a rotation of players, and speeding up the development (or at least keeping up with it at a normal pace) across the board.
judging from how many offers they've already made for the 19 class, i think it's safe to say we probably won't see that many Juco offers going forward.
