Depth chart for Utah state

Quick question: I get that we plan to run a nickel defense as our primary defense, but with an already embarrassingly undersized defensive line, how exactly will taking one LB off the field and replacing a DE with a LB keep teams from running down our throats??

good question.

I said the whole time those would be our starting 3. With that said, we will still rotate a lot so it's not a huge deal.

Well congratulations. Jayson Swain should've hollered at you because he was surprised as well. While Pig is to be commended for doing the work required of him and listed first on the depth chart for USU, I fully expect Josh Malone to be the big playmaker opposite North at wideout.

Think we're going to be really good against the pass.

Think we could really struggle against the run.

Yep. That's why I think we will do decent against UF, Ole Miss, and Missouri, and probably get pounded into oblivion by Bama, UGA, and USC.

I hope Wolfe's name gets called a few times Sunday night. It's gonna be hot so we'll need some depth. Aggies better get ready for some humidity.

While there are definitely some surprises, the defensive 4-3 alignment is just a mask for the multitude of alignments we well see on Sunday. It tells us that, behind Maggitt, Barnett has won the DE spot. Hendrix is the next in line. The Jumper news is really surprising. They haven't mentioned him much in the interviews. I wonder if Bynum has an injury. Great to see an under-the-radar guy step up. Looks like Mixon will be in the 2 deep until Saulsberry is healthy. No surprise there. Looks like Weatherd is making an impression right away. I agree with one of the other posters about Coleman being at CB. He is the nickel and Williams/Moseley are the CB opposite Sutton. I thought Waites would be the backup punter. Looks like Medley has the edge there. Just don't see Sutton as the regular punt returner. Young will be the one there.

Really want to see Medley take control of the kicking game. Now granted I haven't seen Bullock kick too many times. But just from what I have seen from some game film and practice sessions, I would feel comfortable with Medley taking most of our kicks. Not that our kicking game should make that much of a difference in these early games, but we may end up with another SC type of game this year.

No surprises at TE. Wolf and Helm came in and hit the road running. Ellis has gotten frequent praise from coaches during camp. The OL was predictable although I think Wiesman could also be the first choice at guard when needed. Congratulations to Pig. It's great to have you back. I thought that Smith would be a starter given how well he has done in camp. Of course, we only see the beginning portions of camp. I don't believe the Peterman OR Dobbs. It's Peterman and then Dobbs.

6 more days. CAN'T WAIT!! LET'S GO VOLS!!!!

Good news is Utah State is deciding their last corner spot btw Gray who hasnt played a game in 2 yrs or a 160lb true freshman corner who had one d1 offer. I say go at that side hard. Croom and North got him by about 7 inches and 60-80 pounds.

Could have been diversion considering the depth chart that was released. OTOH, UT hasn't had a DT that played well at over 300 lbs since Dan Williams. In his two years, I don't think Wilcox had a regular contributor at over 300. In 2010, M Jackson played one DT spot at 270 lbs or so. He was flanked at various times by Ayres, Sykes, Walls, and Victor Thomas... none of whom were big. Hughes was in and out and weighed a little over 300.

Did not know Jumper joined UT? Kid was supposed to play for the Naval Academy but was waived for a medical reason. Glad to see he gets another chance.

I thought Vic was turning some heads and was projected to be the return specialist? Although, I feel that Cam can be dangerous with the ball in his hands, I'm always against playing starters as returners unless they are just magical like CP or Devin Hester. I think we'll see Croom come in during 3rd down and red zone situations. I know it may be overhyped or overly talked about but I really like our group of receivers. We have a little bit of everything such as possession, hands, speed, deep threat, slot, etc.

FWIW, the size of this D is more similar to what Chavis favored at UT. He was willing to give up a little size for speed at pretty much every position. DE's are pretty much dead on what he fielded. He usually had one bigger DT though.

It's not the size of the D, it really is just how you use it.

Aggie board says it's the freshman. According to them, he's a definite stud since he earned a starting spot on a top 15 defense as a freshman. <smirk>

Seriously.

Yeah he is only so good. Good enough to be the starter as a true freshman on a top 15 defense.
