I was told Lawson being fired was something some of the players pushed for, perhaps for reasons you stated. And since the athletics dept has been trying to rebuild the reserve fund, that might not have set well with whoever crunches the numbers, and that would be why his position wasn't filled.

Someone must have thought it would not be that big of a deal. And perhaps had the position been filled, there might have still been the same number and type of injuries. But having that many guys hurt and being short handed in the S&C department makes that decision look really dumb.
