Maryland may be south of the old Mason-Dixon line, but it is far more northern than southern in its culture. Like Virginia, it is more properly called a Mid-Atlantic state.

The more pertinent point is the 9--rpt. 9--of the 10 poorest states in America are in the South and most are conservative and have been run by the GOP/conservatives for decades. Coincidence? Most of the wealthiest states are blue and vote Democratic. If it weren't for the multinationals that have build manufacturing plants in the South to take advantage of the region's low (screw the workers) pay--its stupid anti-union stance--the South would be even poorer than it is now. Those factories are only there because the companies know that its OK to squeeze workers in the South. The region apparently likes being poor--or maybe its that the Republican legislators who run Southern states are happy to stiff their own citizens so long as they are doing well financially. The mindset of GOP politicians who are always KEEN to please corporate CEOs at the expense of the people who actually do all the work. Its no surprise that Wal-Mart was started in lovely Arkansas: "We call it Wal-Mart, everybody, and we're going to pay you $4 an hour!."

I bet you got a hard on typing your comments about redneck southerners

Wrong wrong wrong wrong and wrong again.

If you really want to get serious about this conversation you are going to have to go wayyyy back my friend.

You have to consider the fact that Europeans mostly settled in the Northeast upon their arrival to America. The Northeast had great advantages over other parts of America due to its access to the sea.

The NE had natural harbors and accessible rivers they could navigate. It was the perfect setup, everything had to go through them. The south and other parts of America were producing the majority of raw materials but they still had to go through the NE.

Democrats and Republicans had nothing to do with what made the NE boom, geography did.

Also, if you look at modern America there are tons of poor cities ran by Democrats, they are often more violent as well.

I'm sure he can find a way to blame southerners and conservatives for the poorly run Democratic cities

Shhhhhhh. Don’t let facts ruin fuqnut’s anti-southern, anti-republican, anti-God (yes I know he/she/it didn’t bring up religion this time) temper tantrum.

No mention of southern girls? For shame.

Spring was made for Sun dresses and southern ladies.

New England and California are beautiful, but I couldn't afford to live in those places. The good thing is Tennessee, especially East Tennessee, is as beautiful as any place I've been.

Being in boston has taught me a few things. The minority's here, can't wait to leave.

Can you guess where they are going?

where a black man has been sitting in prison for a DECADE and still hasn't been tried--see NYTimes story. Are they going to Alabama, where localities have been setting up their own school systems so their kids don't have to go to school with African American children?

Yea, I forgot how Southern states still run by old white men in starched white shirts, men like Jeff Sessions, like to roll out the red carpet for African Americans and low-income people generally. The low wages, poor benefits, gerrymandered congressional districts that have limited African American voting clout, high incarceration rates (Louisiana has the highest in the country, I believe)...the list goes on.

So we need more government to fight the injustice that the government is doing. Got it.

Is the NYTimes still in existence? Do you have an issue with private schools? Are there any AA children in private schools? Do people still use Faultless spray starch? Have you ever met Jeff Sessions? Why does the carpet always have to be red? What is the threshold to be considered low income? Have Democrats ever gerrymandered a congressional district? What percentage of people incarcerated in Lousiana actually committed a crime?

Europeans of that era were idiots. Either that or they couldn't go one mile farther in one of their luxury ships and planted roots in NE. Had I been an earlier settler I would have at least gone to Norfolk. Much better weather and the harbor there is just as protected.

That's a good point about Norfolk. It seems like there "should be" a larger city there given the natural harbor. The Navy has a large presence there, but the city itself isn't all that big (just 1.6m in the metro area).

Just when I thought you couldn't get any dumber.

Low wages? That's vague. Low wages for what? If it's for a minimum wage job then sure call it low, but it's minimum wage for a reason. If you are flipping burgers, something that anyone can do you aren't getting $15 an hour in an area where cost of living is low. How does that make any sense? Especially when you consider the fact that 50% of the time those "skilled" workers get my order wrong. Did you ever consider that if they raised the minimum that would either A) drive cost for that product up B) lead to those places hiring less employees than before or C) both of those things which is most likely.

As far as public school goes that's not an isolated problem for the South. That happens everywhere and for good reason. If the public school is failing and the kids that are going there (white or black) are part of the problem then why would you want your child to go to that school?

You constantly play the race card, but let's have an honest conversation about this. I dare you to look at the list of failing schools throughout the US and see what the primary demographic is. Then explain to me why is that?

Are you saying that white children need to go to schools that are primarily black to help the black students do better in school? I really don't understand your argument. It shouldn't matter the what the demographics are. You still have teachers, now you just need children willing to learn.

I'm sorry but this problem isn't a racism issue.

I think the reason that accusations of racism have made a comeback is due to the election of Obama. Obama was elected and his subsequent +70% approval numbers proved that the U.S. Is no longer inherently racist or bigoted. Since racism is such a big business to entities such as SPLC, Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, etc, they have doubled down on calls of racism. Racism is what butters their bread and their not going to give it up.

Thats what he wants you to think. His real desire is for White people to just feel bad that they don't have artificially integrated school systems. He still wants black schools to be solely black so they can continue to receive failing marks thus giving him a finger to wag at old evil White man in a starched shirt.

There are probably more people living in poverty in New York City alone than in the entire state of Tennessee.

I'm not saying that's a good thing, but those graphics are nice to look at, but they don't provide enough context.
