I forgot about them beating FAU. Still a pretty nice jump going 1-1. They're certainly worthy of that ranking. They're long and athletic and can fill it up
It was a good week for Illinois. Beating FAU and challenging Tennessee on the road leading at the half. Nothing wrong with those results at all.

Some of you may remember I did a tracker for our AP Poll ranking that year. We spent 4 weeks at #1, and the entire season in the top 10.

Let's run it back this year.

All rankings updated. Big move into the top 10 for us in all rankings (except Haslam, wtf).

Losses to #1, #2, and #9. Wins vs #11 and #23, and an upcoming game against #24.

11 games played and 5 against ranked teams. 2-3 in those games is nothing to be ashamed of. All neutral site or true road losses and none were blowouts. A true road win, a true how win, and another opportunity for a quality win on the horizon. Good start.

Updated. Haslam is smoking something.

It seems we are working on learning how to play together. This team has big potential and I am excited to watch it unfold. Recently we have started well and fade when it matters most, in the NCAA tournament. Maybe this year will go the other way around.
Fade or typically had a tough bacended conference schedule and 7 or 8 out of 9 years had a key player out with and injury at the worst time.
Starting with Kevin Punter, Kyle Alexander, Lamonte, Fulky, Pons etc…
I’d like us to be healthy and stay healthy thru March

Probably would make sense to drop Haarlem from the equation since they are such an extreme outlier. That would make our average at #7 which seems fair at this point.
Is Haslam algorithmic?

Edit: it is, but it’s a kinda wacky mix that puts a ton of emphasis on estimated shot quality from the looks of it.

Updated. Up to #5 in AP, and most analytical rankings have us settling out around 6-7.

I'm going to leave Haslam in for a couple weeks and see if we lose a couple conference games and they were right, or if we keep winning and they don't raise us then they're dumb and I'll drop them. If one ranking had us too high, we wouldn't drop them, so for now I'll give that same allowance for being too low.
