Several reasons.

1. Hes a beast.
2. Some of our recent DEs will play the hyrbid role and we need traditional ends.
3. A couple of them will need a redshirt year and a developmental year to get physically ready to play in the SEC. Players coming in like Barnett are not the norm.
4. Depth. And not just depth, but ready to play depth.

Apart from a few developmental prospects in this next class (O-Line guys, Brooks, Okonya), it looks like Butch is targeting guys that are ready to have a big role on this next team. Butch wants to win now, and some of these JUCO players are just more physically ready to play than a freshman out of high school.

amazing that some on here cant grasp these simple things.

In terms of complete DEs next year(2016)Barnett, Lewis, Vereen, Butcher, Phillips, Mixon come to mind. 2 of those guys will be Srs so def need some help there for depth. If the roster is right then Jakob helps that number.

Hybrid group is scary legit with Taylor and Smith for the next 4 years.
