....which is concerning

Oh I agree the current class has some very questionable takes. Especially this early.

That comment was more toward the idea that maybe at some point the staff sees their recruiting methods are hurting them as much or more than helping them. IMO Butch needs to change the recruiting style. He needs to stop tossing out worthless offers, especially to legacy and instate guys he's not taking. Offers need to have some sort of value. A UT offer has become very devalued IMO. He needs to adopt Dabo's style of recruiting. Take the commitment only if you're going to honor it. Start that and you can shut down all the visits after committing. You can preach "family" and it mean something. You eliminate all the negative recruiting against your methods. And most of all, your commitments will help recruit as they feel their spot is actually theirs. People say it can't work, but it does at Clemson. UT has better facilities, better town, better tradition, pretty much better everything. Also we're in the SEC. Bring those recruiting methods in and I'd bet we'd sign better classes.

Butch has to take care of the program and will accomplish that with what he feels comfortable. There's a recent fiction regarding Clemson and their "we honor all offers". No way it's true. Even if it were Butch can't BET his career on a fanciful shiny happy people experiment. Recruits get bumped by the Bama's and LSU's of the world real close to NSD and more recruits flock to be next in line. Something to do with television and big game highlights. They don't join focus groups in the Caymans and pine on ethics and integrity 18 of the 24 hours. They join the bigger and better. We had a poster named Leb who felt Butch was shady in flipping Dobbs because supposedly he had made a blood oath to Riley Ferguson coronating him as the Chosen One. Glad Butch is our scuzz bucket on that one...took care of the program. He also railed against offering John Kelly because Jacquez Bruce/Vincent Perry would be adequate RB depth. :lolabove: There were others but the showstopper before that federal sting shut down his white slave operation and forced him into fugitive status was that adding Sheriron Jones was a broken promise to EE's Dormady and Jennings. Recall he guaranteed one or both would transfer out of disgust in solidarity...still here...miss that criminally flawed goob.

You'll never be able to honor all "offers" unless once you offer and the kid doesn't commit on the spot you rescind them. I'm not suggesting that. Honoring commitments is what needs to happen.

As for my feeling that our staff has devalued what a UT offer should mean, Clemson has offered 135 kids in the 2017 class. We have offered over 350. I think it's a problem.

Wouldn't it be great if someone would carry on in the exact same fashion. Like an apprentice! :horse:

Callahand said early on UT was not a realistic destination for him, mostly due to him having to sit out a season and overall numbers.

Alas, no such apprentice could combine the criminal psychosis, drug tolerance and obsessive piousness over football recruiting offers. We are blessed with the true artists maybe once in our lifetime and until Interpol locates him disguised as a transgender pole dancer, he will be gone forever.
