@recruiting_acc: through 16 games in the #EYBL circuit Malik Beasley (@MaLiKK_5) is averaging 19.6 PPG, 5.2 RPG and 1.9 APG for team Georgia Stars.

Top 5 in all of EYBL in scoring at 19.6ppg, that's incredible, guy is a legit top 30 prospect.

This is big time AAU season right now. Basketball rankings are usually pretty accurate because AAU allows scouts to see players play against the guys they're being rated against.

its also when one nba player, random coach or whomever sees a few plays and gets the hype train going. The kid is no different of a player than he was a few weeks ago. Reason # whatever it's about the player and what you do with them more than the rankings for 90% of the teams out there. The Calipari's are the exception as an NBA developmental team but we can win with classes out of the top 20 and his bump from 3 to 5, which would affect rankings though he had the same game, is one of the many reasons why. If he doesn't play that one game or get that hype during a tourney, he's still a 3*.

This doesn't surprise me much since Mostella was cleared

Exactly. Basketball rankings are usually very accurate. We definitely do need top 20 classes to compete with the big boys.

Like UCONN did with their last 2 classes not ranked the top 30?

UCONN is somewhat the exception not the rule, they had a couple foreign players who weren't even known by scouting services, and also a couple transfers which don't count in recruiting rankings.

So while it is true that their last 2 classes weren't ranked highly, there's more to it than that. They do an outstanding job of identifying overseas talent, not sure who's responsible for that, but they deserve a lot of credit.
