Can this Dools' "VFL" thing die now? There are none on the coaching staff. There are none in the administration. Can whoever wants to play or coach at UT just be a Vol? It really doesn't need to be anything more or less, because it is not an individual sport. It is a "team" sport. The Vols.

I am very pleased with this hire. He is on equal footing with Graham with great upside.

Terry Fair and Anthony Parker would like to say something about that..

either way i agree it is a great hire

I don't know much about Gillespie as a coach but I hope he is as good as everyone seems to think he will be. What I do find funny is now that Graham is gone everyone seems to think Jay wasn't all that good to begin with. Jay may not have been the best coach ever, but its hard to deny the fact our running back were better last year that the pervious year. Yes I understand that some of that is due to Coach Pittman, but I think the running backs ran better too.

Graham is a good coach. Gillespie is too. I'm not looking to take anything away from anyone. I agree our backs ran better last year. I think Gillespie, coming from a true spread offense, may prove a better fit for what Butch is going to implement. He has produced successful backs at South Carolina, Oklahoma State, and WVU. He recruits exceptionally well in the state of Florida and overall. He's a relatively young coach, younger even then Graham, who has quickly built a reputation for himself. Graham was a big loss, but we found a great replacement.

I don't think anyone is saying Jay wasn't up to parr. I do, however, believe we have hired somebody who is equal to Jay. The only thing he lacks is that VFL tag. That may be a good thing, however!

There's a few on here that have the attitude that he wasn't that good and that we didn't really lose anything when he left. If Gillespie is equal to Jay then we didn't really lose anything.

Like I said I don't know enough about Gillespie to comment on him but I hope you are right. I think you hit on something with Gillespie possibly being a better fit for Jones' offensive style.

you think people in Florida are saying this about Jay Graham. Hes from a Vol he can stay up in TN...come on, the whole alma mater thing is a little overplayed.

Sounds like a you problem.

UT is getting a very solid RB coach with SEC experience as a player and a coach.

Funny how you guys are still questioning Graham and his loyalty to UT. Hubbs said on the radio that Jay wasn't comfortable being the lone holdover from the last staff. Something he experienced at Miami Oh, and wasn't crazy about. Personally I'm gonna believe Hubbs before I believe Ainge. If anything Ainge should have his Vol Card pulled for calling out a fellow Vol on the radio without having his facts straight, not Jay Graham. Graham made a business decision, like it or leave it. It would be really interesting to know the contributions to the university of those saying Graham isn't a VFL. Not just money, did you play, coach, etc. I'm just wondering...do we have people on here qualified to question if Graham is a VFL? Perhaps a few, not many, if any.

We just got a new RB coach with great credentials, yet we have folks still crying about Graham like lil' bi-ches. Enjoy the moment folks.

The VFL program was not created for the fans and coaches to latch onto. It's about the only thing Dooley did worth while. Antone Davis was a great hire. It is a program for current players to keep tabs on them and possibly identify risks (grades, behavior, home life, etc) and deal with them before they become problems. It is also meant to instill pride and confidence in wearing the orange and what it means to be a Vol.

Fans have NOTHING to do with the actual VFL program. To us, all it is is a catchy slogan that apparantly places unreal expectations on former players that had nothing to do with the VFL program in the first place.
