Jalen soft?
Outback Bowl Highlights: Jalen Hurd Stiff Arm - YouTube
That was a defensive lineman getting abused by Jalen's stiff arm.
The last few backs that have won it has averaged well over 5 per carry I believe. They have also had great OLs to run behind. The OL should be solid this year so hopefully Hurd can get over that 5 per carry mark. I won't hold my breathe for him winning it, he absolutely has the potential to do it though.
Hurd does everything well. He has a complete game. His one weakness is that extra gear in the open field. If it turns out he's got that, and shows it this year, then he can absolutely put himself in the Heisman discussion.
If it turns out he simply doesn't have that gear, then he'll still have a great year. It just won't come with a bunch of hardware.

That funny name guy has an issue the guy from Georgia has, seems he cannot be reliably counted on to receive a pass, hands of stone, should have been a boxer.
He will never get enough carries. Tennessee rarely has a feature back. We have three that could play in the NFL right now. Besides, getting too many carries would only shorten his NFL career and put his health in jeopardy. The smart thing is for him to share the load with the other two backs and stay healthy for big moments. Kamara needs the carries to show the NFL what he can do and John Kelly is probably aching for playing time.
I feel sure Hurd will play enough to get the 892 yards he needs for the career rushing record. Barring injury, he'll probably have another 1000+ yard season... but Fournette and Chubb will have less competition for carries and their numbers will reflect that.
McCaffrey will be splitting carries a lot more this year, so his numbers are likely to drop, too. It's great for Hurd to be in the conversation, but he would have to be unstoppable to become the Heisman frontrunner.
