in Tennessee Vols Football Recruiting

josh-shirley2Even though the times might be a little rough for Tennessee Volunteers the coaches for this SEC power are still working the recruiting circuit and finding success there. One player the Tennessee staff is after is Josh Shirley (Fontana, CA/ Kaiser) a 6’2 225 pound linebacker with 4.53 forty speed.

Kaiser has offers from Arizona, Miami, Tennessee, UCLA, USC, Washington, and Notre Dame among many more and VolNation.com caught up with Shirley to see where he currently stands.

“Our season went pretty good,” said Shirley. “We made it to the third round of the playoffs and that is pretty good for California. I personally felt like I did pretty well this season but I couldn’t give you any kind of stats or information like that.”

Shirley came into the season playing defensive end most of his high school career but made the switch to the linebacker position and states that is where he will be playing his college ball next year.

“All the colleges are recruiting me to play the linebacker spot,” says Shirley. “At Tennessee they like me at outside linebacker.”

Coach James Cregg is Tennessee’s contact with Shirley and Shirley says they talk pretty often.

“Ya Coach Cregg and I spoke about a week ago and that is about how often we speak, every week or so,” said Shirley.

While some colleges might be using all the NCAA possible infractions as a negative recruiting tool Shirley says for him Tennessee is still ok and he’s not worried about it.

“Right now I don’t really think it is that big of a deal for me,” said Shirley. “I think Tennessee will be ok and I am not too worried.”

Shirley states while he is hearing from a host of schools right now two schools are working him the hardest.

“Right now I hear the most from Arizona and USC to be honest,” Shirley states. “That doesn’t mean they are my favorites right now though. I am totally open and I hear a good amount from USC, UCLA, Notre Dame, Tennessee, Arizona, and Washington and I’d say those are my main schools.”

Shirley is going to be playing in the US Army All-American Bowl January 9th and said he hopes to make his college choice around that same time period.

“Right now I think I want to make it in and around the middle of January,” said Shirley.

So while the Vol coaching staff continues to search the nation for talent watch out for this talented linebacker and VolNation.com will certainly keep tabs on him.

Come to Da U…

Miami is on the Rise, just inches away from a Title shot… If anything the changing of the guard in the SEC has shifted to Alabama; being quite honest (and I’m an UM fan).

Da U is on track to play Alabama for a Championship next year.. history always repeats itself, it’s Miami’s cycle back to the top!!

Be apart of something special, prime time coverage, and the opportunity to continue the tradition of great players from Da U in the NFL..

Miami knows what it takes !

Lane is a Klutz!
