They were probably Irish Travellers. They are the white trash of gypsies. Most gypsies are poor so they are thin. The European governments wont help them outside of committing such acts as forced sterilization. Gypsies still remain the most opressed minority and there is no one crying foul over it (besides the gypsies).

European gypsies are not afforded opportunities to be successful, that is why a lot of them are criminals. American gypsies are gadjos...they may be ethnically gypsy but don't live the lifestyle...kinda like me. I will say though I am only 1/4 gypsy and a 3rd generation one at that. The other 3/4 of me is pretty much a mutt. My gypsy grandma does not even remember much of the language or customs.
