Omg really?

All that stuff goes to a med waste dump. Machines can pull the blades out. Refurbishing company cleans them, sharpens them, then sterilizes them. However, those same sterilization techniques are reasons for staph and other infections that have killed people during a basic surgery due to infection. They aren't full proof. Still could be traces of somebody else's taint since most refurb operations are shoddy.

They do refurb medical drills, burs and blades used in surgery though. Used to fight it all the time. Drill is used to drill several holes in a dudes tibia, then the drill is sent off to be cleaned, sharpened and sterilized for resale. Its not entirely out of the realm of possibility that these blades are similar.

That's so nasty.

I know. I about got kicked out of a hospital for standing up in a meeting in front of hospital admin and asking them if any of them would want to have surgery using a bone digging burr that already was used on somebody else, yet they didn't care if their patients did or not. About 10 years ago. I was pretty feisty.

What did you do at the hospital?

I was a trauma sales rep. Traumas come in, and I would have to go up there and help make sure equipment was prepared and used properly. Sometimes a nurse, resident or surgeon isn't sure how to use the equipment they are holding, so I would use a laser pointer and help direct. Pretty fun. Wore on me quick though. Saw some crazy stuff.

Sounds like all the fun of the ER with no common colds.

That's cool. I'm glad you were able to get out of it tho

Scary to think at some points that some fool like me would be walking a surgeon through steps of a procedure to repair a break or tear. But there are too many things out there. No way surgeons and staff know how to use everything and an error can be costly. Good thing I used to puff before I went in to calm my nerves.

Nice. Sounds like a fun job anyway.
